No Place Like Home
Primal Rock Rebellion Lyrics

Jump to: Overall Meaning ↴  Line by Line Meaning ↴

Well, I go into town today
It's city smog and city ways
Every eye is on the floor
Trying so hard to ignor
You gotta watch your back and be aware
Blood runs cold, then disappears
There's soot and sadness in the air
No-one even seem to care.

Do you wanna hover
Towards the air of sumer
To love within the land
Oh, they say there ain't no place like home?
But it ain't here
No, it's nowhere near
I need to find that shore
Oh, they say there's no place like home.

Well, I get back upon the train
It's dark and duller shades of grey
Those wings I see go flapping by
Those pigeons swarm then learn to cry
City smog and city smoke
Sky looks it's about to choke
On soot and sadness in the air
No-one even seem to care.

Do you wanna hover
Towards the air of sumer
To love within the land
Oh, they say there ain't no place like home?
But it ain't here
No, it's nowhere near
I need to find that shore
Oh, they say there's no place like home.

Yea, they feed off fear
Oh yea, they feed off fear

Why can't they go?
Oh, there ain't no place like home [x2]

Overall Meaning

The song "No Place Like Home" by Primal Rock Rebellion is a commentary on the grey and disheartening nature of city life. The lyrics describe the feeling of hopelessness and sadness that permeates the city atmosphere, with everyone going about their business with their heads down, ignoring the world around them. The singer longs to escape this suffocating environment and find a place where life is more colourful and meaningful. He sees the city as a place where people feed off fear and live in a state of constant anxiety, whereas a place like home offers safety, love, and peace.

The repeated refrain of "there's no place like home" reinforces the idea that the city is a far cry from the ideal home that we all long for. The contrasting imagery of the grey cityscape and the colourful, hopeful "air of summer" creates a powerful contrast that drives the song's message home. The powerful guitars and drums provide an upbeat and driving soundtrack to this message, offering a sense of urgency and energy that reinforces the emotional intensity of the lyrics.

Adrian Smith is one of the most prolific writers and players of all time in rock music! Every project he's involved is different than the others... Urchin...Iron Maiden...ASAP...Psycho Motel...Bruce Dickinson and now Primal Rock Rebellion! My idol since 1985...God bless him!

Mr Zodiac

The vocals fit perfectly they sound so insane!

This song is addicting, i've had it on repeat ALL day, I had to run into town and buy the album. This brings back your faith in collaborations particuarly after Lulu. The video gives Tool a run for their money in terms of weirdness too.

Awesome song! It's great to see Adrian branching out once again and sewing his creative oats! He has a wonderful voice, and of course his playing is fabulous! Would have loved to have seen more of him in this vid though. ;)

Brilliant! Mr. Smith doesn't fail me- this song ROCKS! Driving, heavy, melodic, and a better mix of their respective talents than on "I See Lights." I love, love, LOVE Adrian's tone on the solo! Reminds me of Dave Murray, which is a good thing. Yep, gonna by this when it comes out, for sure!
