Golden Ticket
Primus Lyrics

Jump to: Overall Meaning ↴  Line by Line Meaning ↴

I never thought my life could be
Anything but catastrophe
But suddenly I begin to see
A bit of good luck for me

'Cause I've got a golden ticket
I've got a golden twinkle in my eye
I never had a chance to shine
Never a happy song to sing
But suddenly half the world is mine
What an amazing thing

'Cause I've got a golden ticket
It's ours, Charlie
I've got a golden sun up in the sky

I never thought I'd see the day
When I would face the world and say
Good morning, look at the sun
I never thought that I would be
Slap in the lap of luxury'
Cause I'd have said it couldn't be done
But it can be done

I never dreamed that I would climb
Over the moon in ecstasy
But nevertheless, it's there that I'm
Shortly about to be

'Cause I've got a golden ticket
I've got a golden chance to make my way
And with a golden ticket, it's a golden day

Good morning, look at the sun'
Cause I'd have said it couldn't be done
But it can be done

I never dreamed that I would climb
Over the moon in ecstasy
But nevertheless, it's there that I'm
Shortly about to be

'Cause I've got a golden ticket'
'Cause I've got a golden ticket

I've got a golden chance to make my way
And with a golden ticket, it's a golden day

Overall Meaning

The lyrics of Primus's song Golden Ticket speak of an amazing turn of events in the singer's life. The lyrics start off with the singer expressing their surprise that their life has taken a positive turn. Previously, they believed that their fate was only catastrophe; however, now they are seeing a bit of good luck. The singer then progresses to reveal that they've obtained a golden ticket that has allowed half the world to be theirs. This acquisition is unbelievable for the singer, who had never had a chance to shine or sing a happy song. They forge ahead and state that they never thought they'd see the day where they'd be able to face the world and say good morning, look at the sun. There was never a dream that they would attain the ecstasy of climbing over the moon, but with this golden ticket, it is indeed going to happen.

The song is a testament to the saying that money makes the world go round. The golden ticket is symbolic of wealth and the freedom it brings to people's lives. The singer's life is have transformed into a luxurious lap, and they now have the chance to shine and sing happy songs. The sun is a metaphor for the light that shines on the singer's good fortune. They finally acknowledge that they never thought that any of this could be done, but now they can say that it is possible. The song's overall message is that the acquisition of wealth is a chance to experience a golden day and an unbounded sense of optimism.

This just made me smile.... Tim Burton needs to team up with Primus. Could you imagine Primus doing the score for Charlie and the Chocolate Factory? I mean, that's essentially what this is, right?

ripgutcat

@jevinday yeesh dude...it has its own charm.

jevinday

that would have been horrible. the tim burton willie wonka is absolute trash. they should do a totally different horror adaptation of charlie and the chocolate factory with this score.

Jeffrey Murphy

I think this is a great album. I can't stop listening to it. However much I love the other primus albums, I almost feel like this is the true sound of primus. Definitely evolved

Chris Ballew

Oh god forbid Primus decides to do something besides normal primus stuff. This album is fucking great, and Primus sucks just as good as they always have.

Cheesy

Damn straight

Les Claypool is one of my favorite musicians in rock today. I really love these songs about willy wonka and the oompa loompas.

Memento Catharsis

I bet this whole album would be an interesting and very fun mushroom trip. The weird little voice Les in the background would have me crying with laughter.

Default Guy

Primus is definitely its own genre lol.
