Dream Factory
Prince_______ Lyrics

Jump to: Overall Meaning ↴  Line by Line Meaning ↴

This is what it's like in the Dream Factory, oh!

Hollyrock ain't all it seems (Lordy)
Don't get too serious, it's just a dream
Don't forget your friends, they're all you've got (Lordy)
Listen to the story of a man I am not

Party all night, hangin' out
In the streets more than I be at home
I take a pill to wipe away my doubts
But a pill can't cure my bein' alone
Vodka and seven straight to my brain
Put me under false impressions, hide all my pain
Somebody help me, I'm losing control

This is what it's like in the Dream Factory, oh!

Everybody got the big dreams (Hey Lordy)
But nobody got the bucks
Love and trust will help you make it in a world (Everybody)
Where there ain't no love, ain't no love

Dig...
A man came up to me, smile in his eyes
He told me I was a saint
So I'm quittin' my friends much to their surprise
I can't live up to the picture that they paint
Ah somebody help me, I'm losing control (Ow!)

I guess I'm just a sucker in the dream factory, oh!

Lordy
La, la, la, la, la (Sucker)
Got to drive
[Repeat: 3X]
(It's just a dream)
Look out

Do you want to party?
Do want a pill?
How about a false impression?
(Thrills, spills, chills)

This is what it's like in the Dream Factory, oh!

Ow! Yeah
Up a little bit
(Dream factory, oh)
Party all night, hang up on the side, I said "Uh"
(Do you want to party?)
I can't make up my mind
(How about a false impression?)
I can't seem to live with no pictures (Thrills, spills, chills)
Somebody got to help me! (Just a sucker)
I'm losing control (Just a sucker)
I guess I'm just a sucker in the dream factory, oh!

Guess I'm just a sucker in the dream factory, oh!
(Just a sucker, motherfucker!)

Overall Meaning

In "Dream Factory," Prince takes us on a journey through the realities of fame and the entertainment industry. He sings about his experiences in Hollyrock, a place that is not all it appears to be, where people are just chasing big dreams without any guarantee of success. In the first verse, Prince warns us not to get too serious about fame because it's just a dream. He also reminds his listeners not to forget about their friends, as they are all they've got. The second verse describes the party life in the entertainment industry, where alcohol and drugs are used to mask the pain of loneliness and provide false impressions that hide the reality of one's situation. Throughout the song, Prince acknowledges that he is a sucker for the promises of fame and the entertainment industry, but he is also aware of the harsh reality of it all.

The chorus emphasizes the contrast between the dream and reality of the entertainment industry, where everyone has big dreams but nobody has the money or the love and trust needed to make them come true. The bridge tells the story of a man who tells Prince that he is a saint and Prince decides to quit his friends to live up to their expectations, only to realize that he cannot be the person they want him to be. The song ends with Prince pleading for someone to help him as he is losing control.

Overall, "Dream Factory" is a cautionary tale about the illusions of fame and the harsh reality of the entertainment industry. Prince warns us not to get too caught up in the dream and to remember that love and trust are more important than anything else.

Most of the songs I ve been listening to for the first time here. Prince still making and releasing the best music. He was so creative, Mozart of 20th century. I am addicted since the day I saw 1999 video on MTV. Who played drums on last track?

@danielhornbeck6588

It's very unlikely the drums on any of these songs are anyone other than Prince.

Truthfully in my opinion, I'd say the whole album, Dream factory that is, is a brilliant album as with all of prince's album's; but since I'm an straight forward kinda guy, the one track that appeal's to me is " there's others here with us" not because of how the way it sounds and all, but for how real it is as far as reality and life in general.., as far as intelligence, how could one notice this very earth, people, and all other life forms according to it's kind which dwell upon it, then noticing the sky above and the very universe in expanse.. and say to yourself we are the only living beings in existence... Really...? I'd say you better look a little further my friend or better yet analyze a bit more before you rule out everything else as far as just saying we are the only living forms of life that exist...

@TURTLEGANGNYC

“There’s others her with us” one of his most amazing songs.
