Guitar
Prince(프린스) Lyrics
Jump to: Overall Meaning ↴ Line by Line Meaning ↴
I'm usually round your waist like a chain but then
I got that call so I jumped in my car
[Chorus]
I love you baby
But not like I love my guitar
Not like I love my guitar, no
You couldn't do it all by yourself
You had to go and get somebody else
Your high enough to call me
But your can't reach the bar
[Chorus]
I love you baby
But not like I love my guitar, no
Not like I love my guitar
Oh, listen
Turn it up
Yeah, now dig
I tried to warn you that it's hard to be a star
Especially when your driving other people's car
I woulda gave you mine, girl, but you took it too far
I love you baby
But, just not like I love my guitar
Not like I love my guitar
I know you love me and you wanna be friends
And if you don't at least you need to pretend
We're still together even if we don't get that far
I love you baby
But not like I love this guitar
I love you, I love you baby
(Not like I love my guitar)
I love you baby and I wish you well (I wish you well)
I'll write a letter when I learn how to spell
Until that day, you can go to the...
I love you baby...you know the rest
In Prince's song "Guitar," the lyrics seem to tell the story of a relationship falling apart due to the girl's desire for fame and attention. The song's protagonist, Prince himself, is typically by her side, but he receives a call and drives away from the club where she was performing. He loves her, but he loves his guitar more, and the girl's desire for success has pushed her too far. Prince tries to tell her that it is not easy to be a star, especially when you are using someone else's car as the means of transportation. Prince's tone in the song is sympathetic but firm that he will not sacrifice his music for anyone, even someone he loves.
There is a sense of disappointment and sadness in the lyrics, as the singer realizes that his girlfriend chose her pursuit of fame over their relationship. Despite this, Prince still expresses his love for her but compares the feeling to the profound love he has for his guitar. There is a passionate guitar solo as the song's centerpiece. In total, the song expresses the complex relationship between love and art and how it can be difficult to maintain both equally.

It's easy to get caught up in drama of the lead guitar playing, but the rhythm guitar is actually on another level. A complete musician. We won't see his like ever again.

What I simply admired about Prince besides him being a musical genius is his unapologetic way of expressing his feelings thru his music. He is clearly saying that he will never love anyone more than his music.Brillant.
