Born and raised in Minneapolis, Prince signed a record deal with Warner Bros. Records at the age of 19, soon releasing the albums For You (1978) and Prince (1979). He went on to achieve critical success with the influential albums Dirty Mind (1980), Controversy (1981), and 1999 (1982). His sixth album, Purple Rain (1984), was recorded with his new backing band the Revolution, and was also the soundtrack to the film of the same name in which he starred. Purple Rain garnered continued success for Prince and was a major commercial achievement, spending six consecutive months atop the Billboard 200 chart. The soundtrack also won Prince the Academy Award for Best Original Song Score. After disbanding the Revolution, Prince released the album Sign o' the Times (1987), widely hailed by critics as the greatest work of his career. In the midst of a contractual dispute with Warner Bros. in 1993, he changed his stage name to the unpronounceable symbol logo. Hollow circle above downward arrow crossed with a curlicued horn-shaped symbol and then a short bar (known to fans as the "Love Symbol") and was often referred to as The Artist Formerly Known as Prince (or TAFKAP) or simply The Artist.
After signing with Arista Records in 1998, Prince reverted to his original name in 2000. Over the next decade, six of his albums entered the U.S. top 10 charts. In April 2016, at the age of 57, Prince died after accidentally overdosing on fentanyl at his Paisley Park home and recording studio in Chanhassen, Minnesota. He was a prolific musician who released 39 albums during his life, with a vast array of unreleased material left in a custom-built bank vault underneath his home after his death, including fully completed albums and over 50 finished music videos. He also released songs under multiple pseudonyms during his life, as well as writing songs that were made popular after being covered by other musicians, most notably "Nothing Compares 2 U" by Sinรฉad O'Connor and "Manic Monday" by the Bangles. Estimates of the complete number of songs written by Prince range anywhere from 500 to well over 1,000. Released posthumously, his demo albums Piano and a Microphone 1983 (2018) and Originals (2019) both received critical acclaim.
Prince sold over 100 million records worldwide, ranking him among the best-selling music artists of all time. His awards included the Grammy President's Merit Award, the American Music Awards for Achievement and of Merit, the Billboard Icon Award, an Academy Award, and a Golden Globe Award. He was inducted into the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame in 2004, the UK Music Hall of Fame in 2006, and the Rhythm and Blues Music Hall of Fame in 2016, and was inducted twice into the Black Music & Entertainment Walk of Fame in 2022.

You were on you're way to be wed
You were such a sexy thing
I loved the way you walked, the things you said
And I was so nonchalant, I didn't want you to be misled
But I've gotta have you, baby, got to have you in my bed
And you said
"But I just a virgin and I'm on my way to be wed
Till you're burning up
Head
Till you get enough
Head
Till your love is red
Head
Love you til you're dead
You know you're good, girl
I think you like to go down
You wouldn't have stopped but I, I came on your wedding gown
And you said, "I must confess I want to get undressed and go to bed"
With that I jammed, you fool you married me instead
Now morning, noon, and night I give you head
Till you're burning up
Head
Till you get enough
Head
Till your love is red
Head
Love you til you're dead
Oh yeah, oh yeah, oh yeah
Head

Prince/Lisa Coleman's song "Head" is a controversial and sexually charged piece that speaks of a man's desire for a woman who is about to be wed. The song centers on the singer's encounter with a woman whom he finds extremely attractive. The woman discloses that she is on her way to her wedding but is willing to give the singer "Head" until he is satisfied.
The first verse shows the singer's fascination with the woman's sensuality and how it captures his attention. The woman discloses that she is a virgin and is about to be wed but is willing to fulfill the singer's desires. The man, who initially tries to resist her sexual advances, ultimately ends up being with her after she agrees to give him head. The chorus emphasizes how the man is overly satisfied with the sexual encounter he has with the woman.
The second verse of the song reflects how the singer is now married to the woman, and he gives her head every morning, afternoon, and night. The chorus is repeated to emphasize his satisfaction with their sexual relationship.
"Head" was a track Prince recorded alone in the studio with Coleman. A combination of funky bass lines and hard-rock guitar with lyrics that tell the story of seduction, the song can be considered a milestone for R&B music contemporary with sentimental ballads or easy listening tunes. It also redefined Prince as a renegade out to push the boundaries of censorship.

This was one of Princeโs most funky and nastiest songs that he put out! Although a funky synthesizer fused beat, this song could not be played on radio at the time. I vividly remember. For me, this was from Princeโs best album (Iโm such a big freak). I loved it! It came with an advisory sticker because, all the prudes at the time, just werenโt having it! Prince knew that it would get him big attention, which it did. Prince was also a marketing genius! Theses days, this might make it to radio, if it came out today, instead of, back then. Pure danceable and so delicious. How could anyone not like it? Thatโs just it, they couldnโt!!! Peace.
@tubucoco
It would be played on the radio today with no problem. Today's generation and radio is totally different from back then. But it's alright, listening to this song brings out the freak in you, go ahead and let it out - you big freak, you. Lmao ๐คฃ

Also, Darin, Prince was extremely jealous of MJs fame and talent back then. Dude was notorious for hating on Michael, and the funny thing is MJ just wanted to be friends with him. But he thought MJ set him up 1 time at a James Brown concert when he was fucked up out of his mind and went up on stage and made a fool out of himself. Lol MJ had become extremely famous with movie like videos like Thriller and Bad. So, Prince felt that he had to top MJ that's why he put out Purple Rain.
@darincampbell171
@@tubucoco - Perhaps! I find it hard to believe that Prince would be jealous of Michael Jackson. They were quite different in style and music ability. Michael was just a showman who could sing and dance. However, Prince was the ultimate musician. None better! With up to 30 instruments that he could play, no one was quite in Princeโs league. He was indeed a musical genius. Even though your comment, really doesnโt make sense to me, there might have been a slight rivalry between the two. One that, I find, totally ridiculous. Face it, Prince was the โItโ dude back then. Nobody could touch Prince. He had no need to ever be jealous of anyone musically! Peace to you!
@darincampbell171
@@tubucoco - Well, that is true! How did you ever know, besides me stating the obvious? BTW- I do give great head, enough to put anyone into ecstasy! Well, thatโs for another day! LOL! Peace.
@tubucoco
@@darincampbell171 they did indeed have a rivalry going between them that was mostly started by Prince, it was well documented. Prince even made a comment like you did about Michael just being a showman, not being a real musician because he couldn't play a instrument. That's not true, he did indeed play piano, but because he was such a great front man for the band and his brothers played the instruments mostly, he just concentrated on performing. Look, I don't wanna argue about Prince and Michael, they both were different and gifted at what they did. Prince was the ultimate musician while MJ was the ultimate performer, singer and dancer extraordinaire. Peace
