Let's Go Crazy
Prince The Revolution Lyrics
Jump to: Overall Meaning ↴ Line by Line Meaning ↴
We are gathered here today
To get through this thing called life
Electric word life
It means forever and that's a mighty long time
But I'm here to tell you
There's something else
A world of never ending happiness
You can always see the sun, day or night
So when you call up that shrink in Beverly Hills
You know the one, Dr. Everything'll Be Alright
Instead of asking him how much of your time is left
Ask him how much of your mind, baby
'Cause in this life
Things are much harder than in the after world
In this life
You're on your own
And if the elevator tries to bring you down
Go crazy, punch a higher floor
If you don't like the world you're living in
Take a look around you
At least you got friends
You see I called my old lady
For a friendly word
She picked up the phone
Dropped it on the floor
(Ah, ah) is all I heard
Are we gonna let the elevator
Bring us down
Oh, no let's go!
Let's go crazy
Let's get nuts
Let's look for the purple banana
'Til they put us in the truck, let's go!
We're all excited
But we don't know why
Maybe it's 'cause
We're all gonna die
And when we do (When we do)
What's it all for (What's it all for)
You better live now
Before the grim reaper come knocking on your door
Tell me, are we gonna let the elevator bring us down
Oh, no let's go!
Let's go crazy
Let's get nuts
Look for the purple banana
'Til they put us in the truck, let's go!
C'mon baby
Let's get nuts
Yeah
Crazy
Let's go crazy
Are we gonna let the elevator bring us down
Oh, no let's go!
Go crazy
I said let's go crazy (Go crazy)
Let's go, let's go
Go
Let's go
Dr. Everything'll be alright
Will make everything go wrong
Pills and thrills and daffodils will kill
Hang tough children
He's coming
He's coming
Coming
Take me away!
"Let's Go Crazy" by Prince and The Revolution is a song that inspires listeners to embrace life, to live to their fullest potential, and to avoid being brought down by external circumstances. It begins with a speech from a preacher starting with "Dearly Beloved, we are gathered here today to get through this thing called life." In the following lines, Prince encourages us not to take our existence for granted and to strive for a happy afterlife. He points out that this world can be difficult and harsh, and that it is important to take care of our mental well-being by not letting it be consumed by negativity. He urges his listeners to not let anyone or anything bring them down, even if it is as powerful as an elevator. In the end, he reminds us that life is short and can end at any time, so we must go crazy and live our lives to the fullest.

Dearly beloved
Hello, dear friends and attention please
We are gathered here today
We are brought together in this moment
To get through this thing called life
To face and overcome the challenges of existence
Electric word life
The term life, with all its connotations
It means forever and that's a mighty long time
It signifies an endless duration, which is quite significant
But I'm here to tell you
However, I have some other news for you
There's something else
There is another reality worth pursuing
The after world
The life beyond death, whatever that might entail
A world of never ending happiness
A place where joy and bliss are perpetual
You can always see the sun, day or night
The light of hope and warmth is always present
So when you call up that shrink in Beverly Hills
Therefore, when you contact that therapist in California
You know the one, Dr. Everything'll Be Alright
You know who I'm talking about, the one who promises solutions
Instead of asking him how much of your time is left
Rather than inquiring about the remaining period of your life
Ask him how much of your mind, baby
Ask him instead about the state of your mental health
'Cause in this life
Because in this existence
Things are much harder than in the after world
Challenges and obstacles are far more daunting than in that other reality
In this life
Here, in this present reality
You're on your own
You have to face them alone, without divine intervention
And if the elevator tries to bring you down
And if external forces attempt to pull you down
Go crazy, punch a higher floor
React fiercely, aim higher, and don't give up
If you don't like the world you're living in
If you're dissatisfied with your current circumstances
Take a look around you
Observe the situation you're in
At least you got friends
Be aware that you are not alone in this world
You see I called my old lady
For instance, I contacted my girlfriend
For a friendly word
With the intention of having a pleasant conversation
She picked up the phone
But when she answered the call
Dropped it on the floor
She accidentally dropped the phone on the ground
(Ah, ah) is all I heard
All I could hear were some indistinct sounds of surprise or shock
Are we gonna let the elevator
Are we going to allow external factors
Bring us down
To depress us or influence us negatively
Oh, no let's go!
No way, let's act instead
Let's go crazy
Let's be wild and unpredictable
Let's get nuts
Let's unleash all our energy and creativity
Let's look for the purple banana
Let's search for something unique and extraordinary
'Til they put us in the truck, let's go!
Until we get caught or defeated, let's keep going
We're all excited
We are all feeling stimulated and enlivened
But we don't know why
But we cannot pinpoint the reason for our enthusiasm
Maybe it's 'cause
Perhaps it's due to the fact that
We're all gonna die
Every one of us is mortal and will eventually perish
And when we do (When we do)
And when our end comes
What's it all for (What's it all for)
What was the whole point of our existence
You better live now
Therefore, we must make the most of our lives now
Before the grim reaper come knocking on your door
Before death arrives to take us away
C'mon baby
Come on, my dear
Let's get nuts
Let's celebrate life with abandon
Yeah
Oh yes
Crazy
Insane, unbelievable, fantastic
I said let's go crazy (Go crazy)
I repeat, let's be wild and daring
Let's go, let's go
Let's act now, right away
Dr. Everything'll be alright
The therapist who knows all the tricks
Will make everything go wrong
His methods might make things worse instead of better
Pills and thrills and daffodils will kill
Drugs and excitement and flowers are no substitutes for genuine happiness
Hang tough children
Stay strong and resilient, my friends
He's coming
Death is approaching
Take me away!
Take me to the other world, away from here

In 2013, at age nine I remember listening to the Purple Rain album with my mom.
The first time I heard that guitar solo leading into the outro, I was speechless. As a 2000s boy I'd never heard anything like that before, and I likely won't hear anything like it again.
I was actually hit hard with the news of Prince's death three years later. Didn't grow up during his prime, but I knew we lost a musical legend.
This song, and for that matter the entire album, are timeless and should never be forgotten.

At the Superbowl, the rain was pounding down, and he walked out and played this, and you were reminded what a real Rock Star was.
@Howlingburd19
His Halftime Show is hands down the best one and probably always will be!
@chicagomonica
The older I get- I realize that Prince was so ahead of his time, super talented, and super smart. Wish he was still with us.
@kathrynmiller9622
Said we had to get over to realize that but he definitely was ahead of his time. Story was a long time ago that he was going to take MJ's place. I don't think anybody could replace MJ and there definitely is no one that can replace Prince and that awesome music then he gave us.
@Kelligurl90
I honestly feel like had he stayed in the hospital before he died he would still be here 😫

How was he ahead of his time? He was more popular in the 80's than anyone else besides Michael Jackson. Why do half these comments make it out like Prince wasn't appreciated until after he died or something?
@Music_Head
Prince is not dead. He lives in the music. Even before music is recorded the music lasts forever.
