Frasqueri recorded her first song, "Destiny", in 2010, and released it under the name of Wavy Spice on her SoundCloud and her YouTube channel in mid-2012. It was largely autobiographical and gained modest popularity. Subsequently, she released her second track, "Bitch I'm Posh". The track went viral, and as of December 2017, received 110,000 plays on Soundcloud. Frasqueri then released YAYA, which was a commentary of perceptions of colonial history. Frasqueri continued to release singles, such as Dragons, a Game of Thrones inspired piece, Honeysuckle, and Vicki Gotti until changing her moniker to Princess Nokia. She released her mixtape, 1992, on Soundcloud. She also began touring.
Frasqueri was praised for her feminism, especially after confronting a man yelling racial slurs on a subway train. She also founded the Smart Girls Club, a podcast where she discusses healthy living and "urban feminism".
Frasqueri claims Princess Nokia is an alter ego, which she introduced with the track "Nokia". She released an album named Metallic Butterfly on May 12, 2014, and was debuted on Vice and Soundcloud.
On September 8, 2017, she released her debut studio album, 1992 Deluxe, which was an expanded version of her 2016 mixtape, 1992. It peaked at number 25 on Billboard's Heatseekers Albums chart. NME listed it as the 32nd best album of 2017.
Nokia also has debuted a new radio show on Apple's Beats 1 Radio on February 18, 2018. She has a total of 6 episodes labeled, "The Voices in My Head with Princess Nokia."

Princess Nokia Lyrics

And I let you
You came at the right time
You were meant to
Gift from the above
I know who sent you
Were my perfect person and I loved you
You fill up my cup
'Til I am this high
Then you drain me out 'til I spill over
I wrote you this album for my closure
Even with what happened
I wouldn't go back
Love can last forever
And I know that
You filled every void
I had inside me
I knew you were dangerous
It excites me
You gave me a love that lasts a lifetime
You fill up my cup
'Til I am this high
Then you drain me out 'til I spill over
I wrote you this album for my closure
I wrote you this album for my closure (I wrote you this album for my closure)
I wrote you this album for my closure (I wrote you this album for my closure)
I wrote you this album for my closure (I wrote you this album for my closure)
I wrote you this album for my closure (I wrote you this album for my closure)
Alright, what's up guys?
Nah, figured I was probably already blocked
I'ma keep calling, keep checking
Forever, forever and ever
The lyrics to Princess Nokia's song "Closure" speak to the theme of a past relationship that ultimately still holds a significant amount of emotional weight for her. She begins by admitting that this person came into her life at the perfect time and that she loved them deeply, stating that they were a "gift from the above" and that she knew who had sent them. Despite the fact that this person filled her with love and warmth, she ultimately was left feeling drained and put all of her emotions and experiences into writing this album as a means of attaining closure.
The chorus of the song repeatedly emphasizes the depth of love she felt for this person but also how their actions ended up leaving her feeling empty. The line, "you fill up my cup 'til I am this high", speaks to the idea that this person's love elevated her to new heights of emotion and security, yet the subsequent line, "then you drain me out 'til I spill over", highlights how their actions ultimately left her feeling completely drained. Despite this, she still acknowledges that there were no regrets and that love can last forever.
The last verse of the song speaks to the depth of her feelings for this person, even if they were "dangerous" and ultimately caused her pain. She still finds excitement in the thought of this relationship and what it brought to her life.
Overall, "Closure" is a song that speaks to the human experience of grappling with relationships that ended in pain but still hold a significant emotional weight. Princess Nokia's lyrics are raw and honest, conveying the complexity of feelings in the aftermath of such a relationship.
