It's Over
Prism Lyrics

Jump to: Overall Meaning ↴  Line by Line Meaning ↴

What you gonna do when I'm gone?
Who you gonna turn to when you just can't carry on?
Who you gonna run to when it's over?

Maybe you'll believe me when I'm gone
Maybe if I leave you'll realize where we went wrong
You shouldn't be surprised to know
It's over
It's over
It's over

Maybe in a day you'll change your mind
Maybe if I stay we'll work it out if there's still time
Cause baby if I leave you now
It's over

It's over
It's over

Overall Meaning

Prism's song "It's Over" is a poignant and emotional track that explores themes of heartbreak, uncertainty, and the pain of letting go. The lyrics contemplate the aftermath of a failed relationship, as the singer asks their partner what they will do once they are gone, who they will turn to when they can't carry on, and who they will run to when it's all said and done. The song also explores the idea of leaving someone in the hopes that it will make them realize where things went wrong, and how it might be possible to work things out if there is still time.

Throughout the song, there is a sense of urgency and desperation, as the singer tries to convince their partner to see that the relationship is over and that it's time to move on. The repetition of the phrase "it's over" throughout the chorus emphasizes this sense of finality and closure, suggesting that there is no going back and that the decision has already been made. The lyrics are raw and honest, reflecting the pain of a relationship that has run its course and the difficulty of letting go of someone you once loved.

The quality of Prism's songwriting is amazing, if not underrated. This band should be recognized as one of Canada's greatest bands

@Nancy Nash I believe you left out one of the main ingredients. Ahem.

Jim Vallance and Bruce Fairbairn are the reason this band sounds so amazing. Also the late legend Robbie King is obviously the arranger.. all the run-ups are his signature.. Claire Lawrence also hired Robbie for almost all his projects. Robbie was perhaps the greatest keyboard player I ever worked with.. sadly his vices didn't allow him to always 'be with the program'.

Ron Tabak was one of the best frontmen / lead singers of all time. And Prism's harmonies are vastly underrated.

Great Canadian band... 70s were the best times ever.... a decade of hope for sure...

I saw Prism in Victoria BC in the ‘70s. I can still see Ron today. I wish I could find information on when that show was and the set list. I remember some of the songs but not all. I was only around 15. If anyone has info I’d love it. Robs vocals here are fabulous. So sad that he died so young.
RIP 🌹

I still remember labor day 1979 concert at the Pacific Coliseum
Last day of summer . NEXT day it was back to Kits . Good times

OH OH I think it's Robbie King.. his style is very unique... truly well named.

Robbie King (RIP) may have played as a guest but John Hall was the original keyboardist in Prism. Rodney Higgs aka Jim Vallance also played keys in the early days & is credited with writing/co writing a lot of their earlier songs.
