1) Canadian band:
The original composition of the band was a collection of session musicians brought together by Bruce Allen, manager of Loverboy. Drummer Jim Vallance and Bruce Fairbairn had a jazz rock band named Sunshyne. They incorporated Lindsey Mitchell and Ron Tabak, and switched names to "Under Construction" (also briefly "Stanley Screamer"). Then, when John Hall was brought in as keyboardist, the band's name became Prism. (See their official website at http://www.prism.ca/.)
After signing with GRT Records, they released their debut album with a lineup of Tabak, Mitchell, Lavin, Hall, Ab Bryant and Jim Vallance, who both produced, and played drums under the name of "Rodney Higgs." Vallance did not want to tour though, so left and was replaced by Rocket Norton.
In 1977, they released their self-titled album PRISM, and it had a hit with "Spaceship Superstar". The band subsequently issued See Forever Eyes (1978), after which Bryant left, and Allen Harlow was brought in as a new guitarist.
Armageddon (was released in 1979), featuring some compositional input from the then largely unknown Bryan Adams, and Young and Restless was released in 1980.
After the greatest hits album All the Best From Prism, Prism signed on with Capitol Records and after a few more lineup changes (Mitchell and Harlow went their separate ways, Tabak was fired due to "lifestyle" issues), and vocalist Henry Small was brought in), they released Small Change (1981). The lead single "Don't Let Him Know" became their first top 40 hit in America and the follow-up "Turn on Your Radar" also charted, becoming their fifth and final American hit.
In 1982, the band's touring line up was composed of Small, guitarist Paul Warren, bassist John Trivers, keyboardist Robyn Robbins, and Doug Maddick on drums.
The band broke up in 1982 but Beat Street followed in 1983 featuring Henry Small, Bill Champlin, Richie Zito, Mike Baird (drummer from Journey), and backup vocalists Bobby Kimball (Toto) and Alan Pasqua.
Plans for a Prism reunion with Tabak were cancelled when he died on 25 December 1984, one day after a brain hemorrhage he suffered from a cycling accident.
In 1988 they reformed for another greatest hits album called Over 60 Minutes with...Prism, and five years later another new album, Jericho (1993), with Darcy Deutsch as vocalist, Harlow, Mitchell, Norton, and keyboardist Andy Lorimer. Deutsche. Studio musicians included Bryan Adams, Paul Janz, Mark LaFrance, with Rick Springfield doing some of the songwriting.
The Canadian band has continued to tour, and released the album Big Black Sky in 2008.

2) Prism (Japan) was formed in 1975 by Akira Wada, Ken Watanabe, Katsutoshi Morizono, Koki Ito and Toru Suzuki. Most of the musicians had little professional experience, aside from Morizono, who founded the progressive rock band Yonin Bayashi.
In 1976, the group were signed to Polydor Records, performed as an opening act for Eric Clapton, and toured nationwide. Prism have released a total of 28 albums since 1977. The band was signed to Universal Music Group in 2003, which re-released the band’s first four albums, and remained their record publisher.
As of July 2007, Prism is composed of Jiro Okada (bass guitar), Mansaku Kimura (drums) and Akira Wada (electric guitar) with Kenichiro Shinzawa (keyboards) as "support".

5) Electronic music producer/DJ:
David Hanson studied under Vance Gordan [Dicenso's Drum Shop/First Class Band] in Boston, MA specializing in Afro Cuban rhythms and the Moeller technique prior to venturing into music production.
Becoming more intrigued by the intricate likeness of all societies, cultures and religions, Prism was created with a deeper purpose, not only to showcase all of these influences but to convey an awareness that all things, no matter how different they may appear in physical form, are all the same.
In 2010 Prism was signed to Lovewave Music and released the single "Future Samba." Prism gained support from DJ/Label Owner DJ Chefal on England's Rinse.fm in 2012 showcasing his unique jazz influenced tunes forthcoming on Chef's own label Sub Freq. Prism continues to bring an unmatched approach to fusing electronic music and jazz without coming off trite or stagnant.
As a DJ Prism fuzes Dubstep, Drum & Bass, Jazz and House seamlessly and has played among many acclaimed dubstep artists such as Silkie, Heny G, Razor Rekta, Joe Nice, Kahn, Cessman, Distal, Moldy, O-Dessa, etc...
Virginia
Prism Lyrics

For the plans you made long ago
Hear the engines roar as we walked throught the doors
I just can't believe this dream is over
Virginia look up in the sky, don't it bring you sorrow
We know when ever you gonna fly, I will be there tomorrow
Virginia, Virginia don't go
Virginia, Virginia don't go
You no longer care, when I'm no longer there
And all the love we have will fade away, fade away
Virginia please hold on to me, don't leave it all behind
Is there something I can say, that will change your mind
Virginia, Virginia don't go
Virginia, Virginia don't go
So look around you now at this faceless crowd
You can walk right out and forget it
Virginia we got too much love to bring it to an end
And I know if I let you go, I'll never see you again
Virginia, Virginia don't go
Virginia, Virginia don't go
Virginia, Virginia don't go
Virginia, Virginia don't go
Virginia, Virginia don't go
The lyrics of "Virginia" by Prism are filled with emotion and sentimentality as the lead singer implores Virginia not to leave him. The chorus repeats "Virginia, Virginia don't go" and it is clear that she is contemplating leaving him despite the deep love they share. The song starts by acknowledging the end of summer and the arrival of the future they had envisioned together. However, this dream is slipping away as Virginia contemplates leaving.
The singer then promises to always be there for her when she flies away, but to no avail. The verses then continue with him acknowledging the distance that they now have between them, which makes it easier for her to release him, but not for him to let go of their love. He then begs her to hold on to him and give their love another chance.
The song ends with the lead singer acknowledging the faceless crowd around them but implores Virginia to not give up on their love because they have too much love to bring it to an end. The song is filled with raw emotion as the lead singer tries to convince Virginia not to leave him.

Underrated is an understatement. These guys were great, both as musicians and as people. I have been lucky enough to be at the after-show parties twice and will never forget how Lindsay, Darcy, Al, and Rocket treated me. Still have the free pass Lindsay drew up for me on the back of a postcard for the next night's show! Class acts all the way! RIP Ronnie, who knows what could have been if you'd not gone away that Christmas Eve night...

I loved Ron's voice too - it was so unique so awesome.... I love Prism - their music is timeless
@northweststar1001
I loved Ron voice - it's so sad he died so young but what a legacy of so many good songs.
@Autostade67
As the years pass, both Prism and Trooper, who, if you grooved at the time, tended to place you in a certain realm of taste admired by some and judged by others, have, in the intervening years revealed themselves to be iconic bands far too little celebrated in the canon of Canadian pop. There pretty much isn't anything you can't do to this torch song: roller skate, barbecue, drive with tears in your eyes, drive with the top down and hair flying, watch a CPR train pass, count planes landing at YVR, stare at beautiful people across a patio, fix your car, clean the lawnmower, make love, remember the lost Vancouver of the 70s that was so frickin' cool and didn't know it...really outstanding stuff.

The original lineup was responsible for setting the backdrop on so many good times of our youth that they deserve a special place in our hearts!! They were our friends too....so don't give credit to others looking to take their place..just enjoy!!
