Professor Daniel N. Robinson Lyrics

Jump to: Overall Meaning ↴  Line by Line Meaning ↴

Give me release
Let the waves of time and space surround me, yeah
'Cause I need room to breathe
Let me float back to the place you found me
I'll be okay

Overall Meaning

In Professor Daniel N. Robinson's song "Language," the lyrics speak to the desire for release, for freedom from the constraints of time and space. The singer yearns to float back to the place where they were found, presumably a place of comfort, safety, and familiarity. The repetition of "Let me" emphasizes the singer's need for permission, for someone or something else to grant them the space and freedom they crave. The statement, "I'll be okay," suggests that the singer is struggling with some sort of internal turmoil or conflict, but that they believe they can find peace and resolution if given enough breathing room.

One interpretation of this song is that it speaks to the human need for space and freedom, especially in the face of stress, trauma, or other difficult experiences. The idea of being able to float freely in time and space is both peaceful and exhilarating, and suggests a sense of possibility and potential that is often lacking in our daily lives. The lyrics also speak to the importance of self-care and self-compassion: sometimes we just need to step back and take a deep breath in order to find the peace and clarity we need to move forward.

It was a thin, yet thick book, as I had to read its few pages again and again until I understood its true meaning.

Beautiful.

Listening years ago to Prof Robinson's 50 lectures on Great Ideas in Philosophy for the Teaching Company remains one of the most profound experiences of my life. Dr Robinson is an insightful thinker and a gifted orator. I have listened to many of his lectures on philosophy and brain science since then. Only recently did I become aware of his position on contemporary social issues and his political alignment and, I am sorry to say, that I am most disappointed. All that intelligence and erudition. Pity.

@koffeeblack5717

Where did you find his positions on contemporary social issues?

@11tyfirst

Well, in this talk for instance (note his comments on marriage equality) and in his many contributions to the National Review (which I found online).

@koffeeblack5717

11tyfirst I got the impression he was trying to remain neutral in this talk. Would you mind linking me to his contribution to the National Review? I'm just surprised to hear he'd be regressive on social issues.

It should be noted that Prof. Robinson endorsed Donald J. Trump for President of the United States.

@PresidentSunday

Why?
