Guitarist and singer John Connolly says, “To me, personally, it feels like the most cohesive work we’ve done especially considering it’s the first time we all went in the studio together. That in itself had a huge impact on the songwriting process. And it’s taken some time to finally get released but it feels like we’ve matured quite a bit as a band.”
Hypoxia shows a band building on its established foundation while incorporating new and exciting elements. Following the brooding album intro “Consequences,” listeners are then greeted to the crushing guitar riffs of John Connolly to open the galloping track “Dead Weight,” setting the stage for the rest of the album’s journey. Projected shows great range on this latest offering, establishing hooky and singable moments in songs like “Stain,” “Take Aim,” and “Scars” while expertly crafting classic nu-metal styles in “The Thing That’s Real,” and “Hypoxia.” Songs like “Dark” and “Death Is Mostly Permanent” showcase the band’s ability to slow things down while still keeping a foot-stomping pulse. Fans will be sure to be headbanging in no time to the latest offering by these rock and metal stalwarts. Official release date is Friday June 24, 2022.
The Crown
Projected Lyrics

When it all comes 'round
Hold your ground
Try to take the crown
It's never ever the same way once it's done to me
You never really even know
The perception that it gives me is simple apathy
Now
I'm getting way out ahead
I thought you'd never ask
How
I'm letting someone instead
Wear my crown again
Why
If it was only the first time
You know I'd never
Stand down now
When it all comes 'round
Hold your ground
Try to take the crown
You never ever even said anything to me
I just went with the flow
The self-righteous indignation was only show I see
But I will never be your slave, I'm coming
Now
I'm getting way out ahead
I thought you'd never ask
How
I'm letting someone instead
Wear my crown again
Why
If it was only the first time
You know I'd never
Now
I'm getting way out ahead
I thought you'd never ask
How
I'm letting someone instead
Wear my crown again
Stand down now
When it all comes 'round
Hold your ground
Try to take the crown
The song "The Crown" by Projected speaks about the desire to retain one's power and position, despite the odds being against them. The lyrics urge the listener to stand their ground and try to take the crown, while acknowledging that things may not always be the same way once they are achieved. The first verse highlights the sense of detachment that comes with power, with the singer implying that they are usually unaware of the consequences of their actions. However, time always reveals a person's true motives and morals.
The chorus speaks directly to the listener, encouraging them to maintain their confidence and fight to keep their power. The second verse hints at a betrayal of some sort, with the singer acknowledging that they were misled by the person they trusted. However, they are determined to rise above it and not become a "slave" to their enemies. The final chorus reiterates this sentiment, urging the listener to remain steadfast in the face of adversity.
One possible interpretation of the song is that it speaks to themes of self-preservation and self-interest, especially in relation to positions of power. Despite the challenges or obstacles that may arise, the desire to maintain control and status can be overpowering, leading to a sense of detachment and apathy towards others. However, the song also suggests that these desires can be balanced with a sense of integrity and strength, allowing the person to stand their ground and overcome any obstacles in their way.
