Without Love
Propagandhi Lyrics

Jump to: Overall Meaning ↴  Line by Line Meaning ↴

All in nature end in tragedy and I was the first to finally fade away from my grandfather's memories. How long til the day my memories of him finally fade away?
Dissolving into gray. Is breathing just the ticking of an unwinding clock? Just counting down the time it takes for you to comprehend the sheer magnitude of every single precious breath you've ever wasted?
I did everything I could. I bargained with the universe to take my life instead of hers. But no amount of money, drugs or tears could keep her here. What purpose did her suffering serve? Is breathing just the ticking of an unwinding clock? Just counting down the time it takes for you to comprehend the sheer magnitude of every single precious breath you've ever wasted? So much misery. So much indifference to so much suffering that we can become tempted by appeals to hatred. But this world ain't nothing more than what we make of it revenge ain't no solution to the inevitable pain that every single one of us must face in losing the kindred spirits in our lives. Lives so brief, so disappointing, so confusing. As Cronie slipped away I held her in my arms, reduced to please don't leave me. What will I do? but this cosmic sadness is just here to remind you that without Love, breathing is just the ticking of

Overall Meaning

an unwinding clock.

The lyrics from Propagandhi's song Without Love seem to explore themes of mortality, grief, and the fleeting nature of life. The lines "All in nature end in tragedy and I was the first to finally fade away from my grandfather's memories" could be interpreted as a contemplation of one's own mortality and the passing of time. The singer wonders how long it will be until they are forgotten after they are gone, and whether their life will have left any lasting impact.

The next set of lines conjure up images of death as a gradual process of dissolution and fading away, both physically and mentally: "Dissolving into gray." The singer questions whether life is just a mere countdown of breaths, and whether the time we spend alive is worth the struggle and pain we endure.

The last set of lines is a deeply personal reflection on grief, as the singer recounts their experience of losing someone they loved. They did everything they could to save her, but it was all in vain. They question the purpose of her suffering and wonder what meaning her life had. The song ends with a reminder that love is what gives meaning to life, and without it, our existence is reduced to a mechanical process.

All in nature ends in tragedy, and I
Was the first to finally fade away from my
Grandfather's memories. Well how long till the day
My memories of him finally fade away?

Dissolving into grey.

Is breathing just the ticking of an unwinding
Clock counting down the time it takes
For you to comprehend the sheer magnitude of
Every single precious breath you've ever wasted?

I did everything I could, I bargained with the universe
To take my life instead of hers.
But no amount of money, drugs or tears could keep her here.
What purpose did her suffering serve?

Is breathing just the ticking of an unwinding
Clock counting down the time it takes
For you to comprehend the sheer magnitude of
Every single precious breath you've ever wasted?

So much misery.
So much indifference.
Just so much suffering.
We can become tempted...

By appeals to hatred.
But this world ain't nothing more than what we make of it.

Revenge ain't no solution
To the inevitable pain
Every single one of us must face in losing...

The kindred spirits in our lives.
Lives so brief, so disappointing, so confusing.

As Cronie slipped away, I held her in my arms, reduced...

To "Please don't leave me.
What will I do?"
This cosmic sadness,
Just here to remind you...

That without love,
Breathing's just the ticking of..

Propagandhi is the greatest punk band that ever existed on this world. Their lyrics are unbelievably true and with a brilliant music make something that nobody has ever achieved and probably will never do. With every album they get better and better, and Supporting Caste is perfect record.

Rokk Krinn

I find Supporting Caste to be more progressive thrash than punk.

Joe Riot

Absolutely!!!

Propagandhi are such an important band to me. They will probably always be criminally underrated. Only a few people can write a song like this. Such talent to be able to bottle the emotion into something so profoundly moving. Here listening again to this, one of my favourite songs of theirs, because the dog I live with died today. This cosmic sadness, just here to remind you, that without love, breathing is just the ticking of....

I have never been a huge fan of punk rock music, but I found these guys in 1996 and have listened to them ever since because I am a BIG fan of ANY band that can still manage to provoke a f****ng thought once in a while.  A toast to my favorite Canadian band ever by a mile!

eric berghorn

They're probably my fav Canadian band too, prop and nomeansno. If you haven't heard nomeansno, you should fix that!
