*Note:
In the early 90s, the name Psyche was also used as an alias of Detroit techno artist Carl Craig. Under this early pseudonym the legendary Detroit based techno producer released a few 12"s on Transmat - later compiled onto 'Elements', alongside other material written under his BFC alias, and released on Craig's own Planet E label.
Also, a short lived west coast Scottish new wave/rock band called Psyche released a 7" single in 1982.

Psyche Lyrics
Jump to: Overall Meaning ↴ Line by Line Meaning ↴
I see things that make me afraid
On the other side of the darkness
A body that doesn't feel quite like my own
I don't know what it really means
To keep my dignity
I was blind but now I see
Cities I don't recognize
And people that I cannot place
I followed by an angry vision
A past I know I cannot erase
I don't know what it really means to keep my dignity
I was blind but now I see
I'm trapped by misery
Don't know where I'm going
Because I can't see the end of the road
Without the truth of the story
I'm afraid of what I've been told
The lyrics of Psyche's song "Misery" poetically explore the feeling of being trapped in a state of fear and confusion. The singer describes how from the moment they wake up to the moment they fall asleep, they are haunted by things that scare them. This feeling is intensified by the sense that their body doesn't feel quite like their own. The use of the phrase "the other side of the darkness" suggests that the fear comes from the unknown and the unknown aspects of oneself.
As the song continues, the singer describes feeling lost and confused by their surroundings. They don't recognize the cities they see and the people they encounter. They are also pursued by a vision of anger and a past that they cannot escape. The repeated line "I don't know what it really means to keep my dignity" speaks to the feeling of being overwhelmed and not knowing how to stand up for oneself.
The final lines of the song reveal the root of the fear - the fear of the truth. Without knowing the full story, the singer's imagination is filling in the gaps with terrifying possibilities. Overall, the lyrics of "Misery" evoke a deep sense of psychological distress and the desperation to find a way out.
