*Note:
In the early 90s, the name Psyche was also used as an alias of Detroit techno artist Carl Craig. Under this early pseudonym the legendary Detroit based techno producer released a few 12"s on Transmat - later compiled onto 'Elements', alongside other material written under his BFC alias, and released on Craig's own Planet E label.
Also, a short lived west coast Scottish new wave/rock band called Psyche released a 7" single in 1982.
Ride On
Psyche Lyrics
Jump to: Overall Meaning ↴ Line by Line Meaning ↴
Take a cruise through the neon lights
With the wind in my hair
Not a worry or a care
You know it feels so right
Gotta hold on tight
When you're burning through
The streets at night
Ride on baby, ride on
(Gotta hold on tight)
Ride on baby, ride on
(Til the next daylight)
Take me through the night
And we're staying out of sight
Ride on baby, ride on
You know that I'm feeling mean
When I'm in this screaming machine
We're tearing down the road
And we've got nowhere to go
You know it feels so fine
We can take our time
'Cause on this road there ain't no traffic signs
In "Ride On" by Psyche, the singer expresses a desire to ride out at night and explore their surroundings. They long to experience the thrill of riding through neon lights with the wind in their hair, void of any worries or cares. The adrenaline and excitement are palpable in the lyrics, as the singer urges the listener to hold on tight as they burn through the streets at night. The chorus "Ride on baby, ride on" is an encouragement to keep going and not stop until the next daylight.
The song describes a sense of liberation as the singer revels in their freedom and feels in control of their destiny. They feel powerful and 'mean', almost as if they're invincible while riding their machine. The lyrics suggest that the singer has a driving desire for adventure, and their quest for sensation is insatiable. Even the absence of traffic signs is viewed not as a risk but as an invitation to continue exploring.
