The Feeding
Psyclon Nine Lyrics

Jump to: Overall Meaning ↴  Line by Line Meaning ↴

The cross that feeds on your mind
I've seen the lies that reflect in your eyes
It's just a matter of time
From holy scriptures unfurl twisted lines

And when you die, the cause will be from self-infliction
Your pointless life will only lead to crucifixion
La la la la la

He wasn't there, he won't be there to wipe the tears from your eyes
Your wasted breath has betrayed you

The peace you sought, you'll never fund through prayer and through his hatred divine
You left your whole life behind you

Overall Meaning

In Psyclon Nine's song, "The Feeding," the lyrics depict the consequences of following religious dogma blindly. The first two lines allude to the idea that someone or something is feeding on the person's thoughts, essentially brainwashing them into believing in religion. The next lines suggest that the person has been engulfed by lies and that it's only a matter of time before they succumb to it. The "holy scriptures" are used as a tool to manipulate, and the twisted lines may refer to the use of cherry-picking verses to suit the preacher's agenda.

The line, "From holy scriptures unfurl twisted lines" implies that the person's death will be a result of their own actions. The religious dogma has led them to believe that they need to harm themselves in some way, ultimately leading to self-infliction. The song argues that one's faith may be pointless and that it may lead to one's own downfall. The final lines of the song suggest that faith won't bring any solace - "The peace you sought, you'll never find through prayer and through his hatred divine" - and that one will eventually leave their entire life behind.

This song is like the apocalypse. I'd see it playing in the back ground of a movie where the world was coming to an an end all of the religious people where feeling so betrayed as their entire existence was wiped away, never knowing the truth.
