Great video and some nice tips! This is a scary time for new investors but the best thing you can do is not to make decisions based on emotions. This could actually be a good time to buy more of your high conviction stocks or crypto on a discount. Wealth is created during bear markets, not bull markets. If your portfolio is really effecting your mental health then delete the app and go for a walk.

I treat the exchange as a marketplace. You don't leave the goods in the market after you adquired them, you bring them home with you. Best advice for newbies is to DCA into your favorite projects and keep your crypto under your keys always. The moment you want to sell it, you transfer it in, it takes 2 minutes tops. And, of course, stay as far away from leverage as you can.

It could have been a case of: they had the dollar denominated value of assets but not in the particular assets customers had on the exchange. He may have thought "doubt we would get a bank run and if we do get a mild run, I can just sell some FTT, and sell some xyz (whatever ever other asset they had) and buy bitcoin etc with it to fund withdrawals" but ftt crashed

It has been a toxic few days in the crypto space. It has been very difficult to get objective information. More so than the (unrealized) loss in the portfolios, the great disappointment has been in seeing how the space has devolved overall. Sam / FTX feels like a symptom, not a root cause.

Anyway, I could go on and on. Above all, just want to say thank you, Nick. This is another great video, and has helped to put my mind at ease.

Banks do just what you describe. Depositors funds allow them liquidity to do business. However banks don’t have stable coins or crypto assets to sell.

Correct, the difference here though is that the banks all play using the same currency, they don't make tons of their own fakecurrency, sell that fakecurrency for over inflated prices, take out loans against the overvalued fakecurrency and then have their overvalued fakecurrency collapse.
