Don't Start
Punch Lyrics
Jump to: Overall Meaning ↴ Line by Line Meaning ↴
In Punch's song Don't Start, the lyrics speak to the conflicting emotions and pressures that can arise when faced with the possibility of starting something new. The desire to be successful and finish what is started can lead to a stubborn circle where one feels the need to constantly be doing something, but at the same time, the fear of failure can prevent anything from actually getting off the ground. The question posed in the lyrics is whether this cycle is a way to avoid failure, or if it's just a form of self-deception. The pressure to succeed can come from both external factors and within oneself, making it difficult to discern what is real and what is imagined. The ultimate resolution in the song is to simply not start at all, which can be seen as a way to avoid potential failure but also a missed opportunity for growth and progress.
