I think you might be surprised how many people take ecstasy, certainly far more than would ever admit to it on a survey, I'm at uni in scotland and I woud say about 1/3 of all the people in my year have tried it and at least a few are regulars, I know that uni life is hardly representative but there are a lot of users. I have only heard of one ecstasy incident in my time here and that was because someone was selling PMA as ecstasy instead of MDMA, a lot of the risk is caused by prohibition.

@Hidan Kirito It would have been a terrible shame to not spend your early 20's having fun while you are able to best enjoy it, without a job with real responsibilities.
I will never be as young, strong and brash as I was when I was 20-25, and I will never again recover so quickly from hangovers and come-downs, so I can't find it in me to really regret living life fairly loose at the time, although that missed year or 2 cost me some career progression. I find growing up is about finding your own individual reasons for adopting responsibility, both personally and professionally, and that simply leaves less free time for goofing around.
I am still fiercely against prohibition and I think all drugs should be legal, going after drugs when the addicts problem is depression and lack of meaningful resposibility, is attacking the symptom, not the disease. It increases the supply of bad drugs, massively increasing overdose deaths. It also lines the pockets of criminals to a huge extent and all but guaratees the spread of corruption. It also turns downtrodden areas against the police, which is a disaster, because they are the areas most vulnerable and most in need if police help.

So when he went to Glasto he had access to a confession that each tablet was being sold as ecstacy? The 8% real, 92% fake numbers seem "off". I think he's being mugged, the dealers saw a sucker and gave him some caffeine tablets for £20 each and told to jog on. I've been buying ecstacy in clubs since the 90's and the last thing the seller wants is to have somebody die on them or have some nutter looking for them thinking he's been ripped off. The ratio of getting a real MDMA tablet is very high. It's a rarity that it's something else. Yes it may be mixed with caffeine or speed or glucose. Doesn't make sense why they would put cocaine in it, as cocaine is more expensive, doesn't make sense why they would put poison in it, because they want money, not to kill people. Not smart businessmen if they start killing their customers and scaring everybody away. Put that in your pipe and smoke it poindexter. Millions of people every weekend since the 90s successfully buy E from sellers who they do not know. Rarely are there deaths. Decades now. The propaganda and scare tactics are beginning to wear a bit thin now. Give us some facts or shut up.

@lovextina Caffeine gets you more than high. You just don't feel it. Most casual users don't feel it either. Caffeine as an adenosine receptor antagonist. Heroin withdrawawl involves adenosine sensitivity and so does cocaine withdrawal. Basically when you withdraw on caffeine, you have a vast number of adenosine receptors so you are sensitive to adenosine. Caffeine also increases serotonin, dopamine and norepinephrine in the synapse as well as glutamate.

@lovextina It doesn't remain in fat tissue. It is fat-soluble, but it is excreted via the renal pathway fairly slowly. Nevertheless, it is not at all active in such form. I've suffered and am still suffering from caffeine addiction and caffeine has done a lot more harm to people than cannabis ever will... caffeine is a fucking scary drug, it's underestimated how addictive it is.

Extra strength caffeine pills are 200 mg caffeine. The voltaile oils in coffee may contribute to the effect, but caffeine and xanthine alkaloids are responsible for most of the stimulant effect, as they increase intracellular cAMP and antagonize adenosine receptors (which are inhibitory).

No. MDMA should definitely be legalised. It is safe if taken correctly, not taken too often, and the user doesn’t dehydrate or get too hot. Prohibition has never worked and does more harm. All drugs should be legalised everywhere and regulated individually (but not over-regulated). The war on drugs and drug prohibition is an infringement on freedom and has caused a huge amount of damage.

Aaarg. Ok lets make this very fucking clear 3,4-methylenedioxy-N-methylamphetamine otherwise known as MDMA has an LD50 in humans of around 8 grams of the hydrochoride salt. Nobody in the past 20 god damn years has actually achieved a lethal dose of this substance. If you know of an example where someone did OD on pure MDMA then give me a reference. Most of the people who end up in hospital from taking MDMA are suffering from hyperthermia because MDMA and of coarse other stimulants cause your core body temperature to rise and they have not taken enough fluid to compensate, or from water intoxication because they drank to much water and overloaded there kidneys.
