The band played a series of gigs at Manchester's In The City festival. James Mudriczki, Neil McDonald, Anthony Szuminski and Kevin Matthews met on a bus on their way to watch the Stone Roses play at Spike Island. Matthews watched the Stone Roses' Gary Mounfield play bass and Matthews bought himself a bass guitar.[citation needed] The rest of the members followed suit and bought the necessary equipment to complete a band, although they had little to no musical experience or training.
Through much practice their music developed and they decided on the name Puressence, a name instantly identified by most Mancunians for the paper letters 'P'-'U'-'R'-'E'-'S'-'S'-'E'-'N'-'C'-'E', which were plastered around Manchester city centre, on derelict buildings, and on bridges (the most notable being the railway bridge opposite the Haçienda).Manchester independent record label 2 Damn Loud released two singles and there was a further single with Rough Trade Singles Club.
The big breakthrough came a couple of years later, when the band signed to Island Records.
In August 2003, after more than ten years with Puressence, guitarist and founder member McDonald left the band. He was replaced by Lowell Killen, who is originally from the Isle of Man. He has played in other bands and left Manchester band Dry Riser to join Puressence.
In 2004, the band played at The Witchwood in Ashton-under-Lyne.
In 2006, the band released a single titled "Palisades" on new Manchester label Reaction, followed by an album, Don't Forget To Remember, in September 2007.
On 10 and 11 September 2008 Puressence played their first shows in the US. The first was at the Mercury Lounge in New York City. The next night they played the Apple Store in SoHo. The opening song at the Mercury Lounge was "I Suppose". They passed out free CD singles of "Don't Know Any Better" to many fans around the United States.
The band split in late 2013.
The band currently consisted of:
James Mudriczki: Vocals
Lowell Killen: Guitar
Kevin Matthews: Bass guitar
Tony Szuminski: Drums / percussion
This Feeling

give me one more try.
You're not the only one that can make me sigh.
Why don't you lift me
lift me from the mire?
Too busy staring cold at your magic eye.
Well I get this feeling
jumbled around, around, around inside my mind
Its easy to crease me like a page
Why do I think this way at such a tender age?
You just released me
I'm let out of a cage
I'm staring at the back from a battered cage
Well I get these feelings
I get these feelings
rolling around, around, around inside my mind
I take another pill to make me feel better
take another pill to make me feel better
Slow down
I'm gonna take another pill to make me feel better,
Neck another pill to make me feel better,
Well I get these feelings, I get these feelings
jumbled around, around, around inside my mind
yeah you might find, a special kind, inside my mind
(another pill to make you feel better)
The song "This Feeling" by Puressence is a reflection on the ups and downs of a relationship that has hit a rough patch. The singer is asking for forgiveness and another chance from a lover who seems distant and unresponsive. He acknowledges that he often feels vulnerable and easily affected by their actions and words. He wonders why they cannot lift him out of his misery and instead chooses to stare coldly at him with their "magic eye." Despite feeling trapped and confined in their relationship, he cannot help but be drawn to the person and the intense emotions they bring out in him.
The chorus of the song reflects the turmoil in the singer's mind, with the lyrics "I get this feeling, jumbled around, around, around inside my mind." He feels confused and uncertain about his place in the relationship and whether it is worth fighting for. The bridge of the song speaks to the singer's self-doubt and the insecurities that arise when he reflects on his tendency to get caught up in his emotions easily.
Overall, "This Feeling" is a poignant and introspective song that explores the complexities of relationships and the vulnerability that comes with loving someone deeply.

Loved this song for so long, it popped into my head today for no reason as all great songs occasionally do. I swear for years I misheard the lyrics as 'It's easy to grease me like a pig'...
