Puscifer's original name was Umlaut, "a premiere improvisational hardcore band". The name "Puscifer" was first publicized as a fictional band in the first episode of Mr. Show, including Keenan and Adam Jones as members. Jones is not associated with Puscifer otherwise, although artwork by Jones has been featured on Puscifer apparel (the "Your Mom's a Bitch" shirt, specifically). Keenan describes Puscifer as "simply a playground for the various voices in my head, [...] a space with no clear or discernible goals, [...] where my Id, Ego, and Anima all come together to exchange cookie recipes." Keenan also worked on short films with Ford Englerth and Jeffrey Brooks from Red Rock Entertainment Development; these shorts were done in a similar manner to that of Mr. Show and Tom Waits' Big Time.
Puscifer is "as much a clothing line as it is a band", with the clothing items produced in limited numbers. Keenan collaborated on a leather jacket with Paul Frank. On September 16, 2008, Keenan updated the puscifer.com blog, revealing that the first ever Puscifer store would be opening "hopefully" by October 1 in Jerome, Arizona. Occupying a small space above a tattoo parlor, the store opened on October 3, 2008. In addition to the merchandise available on the band's online store, Keenan has also made available locally roasted coffee, art, and an ever-changing list of limited edition collectibles.

Puscifer Lyrics

Feel like I'm guilty
Making it easy to murder your sweet memory
You were way out of line,
Went and turned it all around on me again
How can I not smell your lie,
Through the smoke and elegance.
But now I know
So you will not get away with it again
I'm distant in those hollow eyes
For I have reached my end.
So...
Thank you for making me
Feel like I'm guilty
Making it easy to murder your sweet memory
Before I go tell me
Were you ever who you claimed yourself to be?
Either way I must say goodbye.
You're dead to me.
So I...
Thank you for making me
Feel like I'm guilty
Making it easy to murder your sweet memory
I'm severing the heart then I'm leaving your corpse behind
Not dead but soon to be, though.
I won't be the one who killed you
I'll just leave that up to you
I'm not gonna be here to revive you
I'm not gonna be here to revive you
I'm not gonna be here to revive you
I'm gonna be the one to say...
I told you so (X8)
I told you
Severing the heart then I'm leaving you corpse behind
Not dead but soon to be and
I'm gonna be the one to say I told you so.
In Puscifer's song The Undertaker, the artist expresses feelings of betrayal and disappointment towards someone who has lied and misrepresented themselves. The lyrics are dark and convey a sense of anger towards the person who has caused this hurt. The opening lines, "Thank you for making me feel like I'm guilty, making it easy to murder your sweet memory," speaks to the singer feeling like they are the one to blame for the relationship's failure because they trusted the other person. However, the chorus line "making it easy to murder your sweet memory" reflects that the singer now wants to forget this person and move on with their life.
The lyrics then turn to the other person, where the singer accuses them of being "way out of line" and turning everything around on them. The singer acknowledges their own naivety towards the other person's lies, saying, "how can I not smell your lie, through the smoke and elegance?" This line suggests that the other person had some charm, but the singer sees past it now.
Towards the end of the song, the artist expresses their desire to sever ties with the other person by saying goodbye and leaving them in the past. The final lines show a sense of vindication, as if the singer has moved on and the other person's lies have ultimately led to their downfall. The line "I'm not gonna be here to revive you" conveys a sense of finality where the singer accepts that it is not their responsibility to fix things.
