I don't know if Super Rugby treats straight Red cards and Off field review upgraded Red cards differently at present. In the Six Nations the latter was a 20 minute sin bin and that player can't return to the field. So I don't know if the Ref bottled it for this reason or if it had no bearing, but the spear tackle was a straight Red in real time, no question. Regardless of intent, it was a clean tackle with no mitigating factors and hips above shoulders into the ground with force. As clear a red card as we will see all weekend. Asking the bunker seems a total cop-out.

As it stands at the moment, refs tend to go to the bunker instead of making the decision. I guess it has to be some kind of very obvious aggro (e.g. punching) to be red carded on the spot.

The speed and angle determined the outcome of that tackle, not Mark Tele'a. I'd say that was a hard call since proper rugby tackling form and instinct in that situation is almost certainly going to result in a bit of an elevation.

Meanwhile, Zarn had a shocker, I doubt he ever played a worse game. Telea has been out of form the whole season. Rieko largely anonimous as usual. The lineout was a complete disaster. The Blues will do very very well to make the playoffs. They still have the chance though.

Eklund can't throw a ball into a lineout to save his life. Ioane hasn't done anything for years except drop passes. Plummer is already overseas(did absolutely nothing). Christie(#6) was completely out of his depth bombng tries and giving away penalties. Christie(#9) is the slowest thinking halfback in NZ with the worst decision making. Sotutu is too casual and looks like he can't be stuffed. Tuipulotu is captain invisible(should have challenged the ref more).

Blues have a serious attitude problem. Some players looking like they think they are bigger than the team (Ioane, Telea, Sotutu etc). They were talking about building a dynasty at the beginning of the season after winning their first title in 22 years (lol). Until they get rid of this entitled superstar celebrity mentality the only legacy they will be remembered for is being the best at shining the Crusaders boots(from a blues fan).

P.S - ref, touchy and TMO had shockers last night. Did their absolute best to advantage the reds. Very poor.
