Pyewackett played traditional folk music by the motto ‘pop music from the last five centuries’: 15th century Italian dances, a capella harmonies, traditional songs in systems/minimalist settings, 1920’s ballads, etc.. The distinctive sound was charecterised by the unusual combination of woodwinds, strings and keyboards. The voices were also a strong trademark. All these features of the Pyewackett sound are shown best on the second album the band released in 1984, The Man in the Moon Drinks Claret.
It is this album that has been rereleased in Music & Words’ Folk Classics series. At the time of this recording the band was formed by Ian Blake, Bill Martin, Mark Emerson, Rosie Cross and guest drummer Micky Barker. The album has been co-produced by Andrew Cronshaw.

This video is a sheer delight, reminds me of the time when our river froze so thick that people walked on it and even erected stalls on it! The music was a perfect choice, thank you.

Love the upload - I remember as a child we would receive Christmas cards with wintery scenes on similar to some in your film....a lot were prints from the early Victorian era here in the UK, but they may have been Dutch Im not sure - I do remember looking at the wintry country scenes with so much detail and been captivated by them. Thank you for a great upload!
