Words and music by John Deacon

I want to break free
I want to break free
I want to break free from your lies
You're so self satisfied I don't need you
I've got to break free
God knows God knows I want to break free

I've fallen in love
I've fallen in love for the first time
And this time I know it's for real
I've fallen in love yeah
God knows God knows I've fallen in love

It's strange but it's true
I can't get over the way you love me like you do
But I have to be sure
When I walk out that door
Oh how I want to be free baby
Oh how I want to be free
Oh how I want to break free

But life still goes on
I can't get used to living without living without
Living without you by my side
I don't want to live alone hey
God knows got to make it on my own
So baby can't you see
I've got to break free

I've got to break free
I want to break free yeah

I want I want I want I want to break free....

Overall Meaning

The lyrics of Queen+Paul Rodgers's song "I Want To Break Free" express the singer's desire to break free from someone who has been lying to them. There is a sense of frustration and annoyance towards this person as they are depicted as being "self satisfied" and not needed in the singer's life. They want to be free from their lies and move on. However, there is a contrast in the song as it then goes on to speak of the singer having fallen in love for the first time, implying that this person was someone they were involved with romantically. The singer is torn between wanting to break free and wanting to stay with the one they love. They express it as a kind of conflict, singing that they can't get over the way this person loves them, but even so, they have to be sure before leaving.

The repetition of the lines "God knows" throughout the song suggests the depth and intensity of the singer's emotions. They are seeking validation, perhaps from a higher power, for their feelings and for their need to break free. It brings a sense of desperation to the song, making it clear that this is a deeply personal emotional experience for the singer.

Overall, "I Want To Break Free" is a song about the complexities of relationships and the struggles of wanting to leave a partner who has been deceitful while also being in love with them. The lyrics are honest and raw, expressing the singer's inner turmoil and confusion.

.MERCURY'S PROPHECY ABOUT JIM HUTTON 'S BOOK (TEN YEARS EARLIER)
In 1984 he released one of his largest anthem „I WANT TO BREAK FREE”. In video we can  see  Mercury is making an eye to us ( that is to say - look for hidden meaning) and he's singing:”I WANT TO BREAK FREE FROM YOUR LIES, YOU’RE SO SELF SATISFIED I DON’T NEED YOU ”  And behind him an old lady (John Deacon) is reading papers with critical comment: „THEY NEVER HAD IT SO GOOD”. Mercury is cleaning - with yellow feather-duster - the room and himself and we can read in newspaper „ROCK ‘N’ ROLL EARL WEDS THE TYPIST”. This is the prophecy about Jim Hutton’s book „Mercury and me” written about ten years later in 1994. As we know Jim Hutton was his gardener and his book was paid by LGBT.       During „The Works Tour” in concerts in Japan John Deacon wears a white T-shirt with sign „LGBT wants to have FUN” to support Freddie in his struggle against accusing comments about homosexuality. In the song „LIAR” realized in 1973 in first album Mercury wrote the prophecy:
 „Nobody believes me …
Why don’t they leave me alone?
„…everything you do is sin
….nobody believes you
…they bring you down before you begin….
Now you know you could be dead before they let you”
And in song „My Fairy king” from 1972 he sang:
„Mother Mercury
Look what they’ve done to me
„I Cannot run I cannot hide”
MERCURY’S DEFENSE AGAINST HOMOSEXUALITY
In 1985 after rumor in press about his homosexuality he decides to defend himself in his own way. In video  „ONE VISION” we can see him in yellow T-shirt with sign DALLAS. This way he speaks to us: I’M NOT HOMOSEXUAL, I know what happened in DALLAS in 1972 and how homosexuality was deleted from the list of DSM. I know about DR. ANONYMOUS.

I visited Queen+Paul Roger concert in Kharkov, Ukraine in 2008!!!!
I've always been a big Queen's fan, and was very happy that you visited our city with the great concert!!!

I think Q + PR is underappreciated because their studio album didn't do well -- the concerts seem to have been very successful. His voice is HUGE.

Great interpretation!!

I think its awesome that Roger and Brian are still keeping Queen alive. Im sure Freddie would want Queen to still be relevant today! Paul Rodgers didnt replace Freddie - hence the "Queen + Paul Rodgers" title - no one can replace Freddie :) Id go see them if they came to Cincinnati - just to be with other Queen fans and see Brian and Roger rock it!!

Roman Podhornykh

I've been there. Fun show called Life Must Go On... Queen is great!

Mustange Sally

Ah Hahahaaa, I want Paul's jacket. Lol. But of course, oh yeah, I want to hear that voice too. I think Queen made a great move in having Paul Rodgers tour with them as vocals in tribute to Freddy. I'm sure Freddy loved it.

еееее!!!!!!! там наши из мариуполя!!!! Queen форева!!!!

Just an observation (this is from a Q+PR fan, not some jerk coming on to bash them): Roger is off by a couple beats, there in the very beginning, Brian's guitar is out of tune AND he's playing in a different key, Paul is on top of his game by adjusting his vocals to match Queen's fucked up set.

Sin Freddie, nada de nada, lentos y mayores ya.
