@Rover Waters I don't really think that's true, given that Freddie's speaking voice was more of a baritone, and goes very low on some songs. And then, Freddie's voice could go higher than Brian's, for sure. Not sure why I feel compelled to engage in the comparison, but there you have it. They are both great musicians and song-writers. IMO, Freddie is a better singer by far. And performer. What I don't get is why Roger doesn't get more attention. His voice is pretty amazing, as is his drumming, and he wrote some great songs too.

Great song. This song has some of the most misheard/misquoted lyrics on the web. Shame even this, the "Official Lyric Video" has a couple of mistakes: 2:25 should say "My God, how could I think of leaving", 2:42 should be "Leaving home ain't necessarily the only way" (not "necessary be") - makes you wonder if the person who typed this spoke English!

A brillant voice, a lovely song, a perfect arrangement and a masterpiece! I don't think Freddie could sing this song this emotive, because he would sing powerfully, but this song needs a soft and sensitive singing style, and Brian has done it that way amazingly! Agreed. This official lyric video gets it a little bit wrong. I've listened to the song for 42 years. If you listen to the lyrics sung by the woman, the very first line coming out of that is, "my God how could I think of leaving?"

And yes the breakdown is for the word ne-ce-ssar-i-ly. 5 syllables. Not Necessary...be. That doesn't make sense.

I've always taken this to be a song about a guy who leaves, but then realizes that leaving home may be the only way that the couple finally realize what they had was good.
