Just watching the show
Over and over again
Knew it was time
He'd made up his mind
To leave his dead life behind
His boss said to him
Boy you'd better begin
To get those crazy notions right out of your head
Sammy who do you think that you are
You should've been sweeping up the Emerald bar
Spread your wings and fly away
Fly away far away
Spread your little wings and fly away
Fly away far away
Pull yourself together
'Cause you know you should do better
That's because you're a free man
He spends his evenings alone in his hotel room
Keeping his thoughts to himself he'd be leaving soon
Wishing he was miles and miles away
Nothing in this world nothing would make him stay
Since he was small
Had no luck at all
Nothing came easy to him
Now it was time
He'd made up his mind
This could be my last chance
His boss said to him now listen boy
You're always dreaming
You've got no real ambition you won't get very far
Sammy boy don't you know who you are
Why can't you be happy at the Emerald bar
So honey
Spread your wings and fly away
Fly away far away
Spread your little wings and fly away
Fly away far away
Pull yourself together
'Cause you know you should do better
That's because you're a free man
Come on honey
The lyrics to Queen’s “Spread Your Wings” tell the story of Sammy, a man who is discontent with his life and wants to break free from his current situation. He feels trapped and unsatisfied with his current job, working at the Emerald bar, where he is constantly belittled by his boss who tells him he has no ambition and should be sweeping up the bar. Sammy dreams of leaving everything behind, embarking on a new adventure, and living a free life. He spends his evenings alone in his hotel room thinking about his future, wishing he was miles away from his current reality.
The chorus of the song encourages Sammy to take action, to spread his wings and fly far away, leaving his old life behind. The lyrics emphasize the importance of taking control of one’s own life and pursuing one’s dreams. It is a call to action for listeners to take a leap of faith and to be bold in the pursuit of their goals.
The song’s message of freedom, self-discovery, and embracing change has resonated with audiences for decades, creating a universal emotional connection.

My opinion, but I think this was one of Freddie's most beautiful vocals, and John's most beautiful song.
@kilimanjaro3517
Agreed. When I feel the urge to listen to Freddie this is the go to song for me. His vocals are incredibly powerful. John Deacon was a great songwriter. When I feel lonely and down I crave this song.
