The Hero
Queen Lyrics

Jump to: Overall Meaning ↴  Line by Line Meaning ↴

Yeah
Yeah, yeah, yeah
I told you, man
Ayo
You're gonna watch your homies turn into snakes
After they said they'd kill for you
Snakes can't slither backwards, he's never been loyal
He might've done some shooting for you
But would he pick up the shield for you?
Froze the beef in tinfoil, it still spoiled
Heavy is the head, but that's what makes the king royal
Magic herb in a paper, fill it with oil
Let your feet feel the soil
Worried about how everybody feels toward you, I feel for you
These days I keep the money clean, no more playing dirty games
I guess sometimes the sunshine is worth the rain
They noticed that my choice of words is strange
Observed this perfect purple strain
Now everybody wants a word with James
Just bought a bigger safe, I'm stashing 105 by 1/03
But flashing your money piles is for the weak
I'm just saying '09 you could find me in the creek
With a Keystone, stoned, smiling, trying to get the cheeks
Just hit Sunny Isles for the week, tanning
Credit's impeccable, first impressions mean everything
Swipe the card, ain't no rescanning
Never enough, I'm not immune, if leaves fall then I'm still standing
Like a tree, planted
When it's all said and done, everything I've said I've done
Done enough for everyone, but man's work is never done
Primitive priorities are to next to none
The difference between us is I won't ever sacrifice respect for sums
Exceptional exception, the one they seek acceptance from
Die of old age, and be remembered young
Protect your sons
If your son marries my daughter, he better spoil her
Or my son's the one they'll need protection from
All the bad shit I did, I'm convinced karma never coming to get me
And even if she did, I'll be armed with a sawed off, armor on
And the AR's always gonna hold nothing less than a fifty
If you take me, then you're coming with me, so come and get me
I could bob and weave in Matrix slow motion and nothing hits me
Come correct if you come against me
Against the grain, head hard as granite
Granted permission to myself to make my presence felt
Cause panic then vanish
Come back as an apparition or poltergeist
You know you're right when you know you're right

Live by your words, that burden weighs on me heavily
Tendencies tend to grow tender, await the penalties

The Hero is an uplifting and inspiring song by Queen that addresses the feelings of imposter syndrome that many people experience in their lives. The lyrics encourage the listener to embrace their inner hero, to believe in their own worth, and to take control of their own destiny. The opening lines, "So you feel that you ain't nobody, always needed to be somebody," capture the sense of insecurity and self-doubt that many people feel, particularly when faced with life's challenges.

"The Hero" just kicks all kinds of ass. I think this was my favorite Queen song in the '80s. I played this song until it practically melted on the turntable back then. Totally epic in every way!

ME TOO!! - played it SO much

@trentoninnewjersey

@@enem54321 if only it were released as a single :(

Should’ve been the B-side of “Flash”

@Chiliholic

Those vocals are insanely powerful.
