In November 2004, the first annual UK Music Hall Of Fame induction ceremony… Read Full Bio ↴In November 2004, the first annual UK Music Hall Of Fame induction ceremony took place and as "Queen" was inducted, surviving active members Brian May and Roger Taylor (without bassist John Deacon who retired from the music business in 1997) play the band's double A-side hits, "We Will Rock You" and "We Are The Champions", complete with former "Free" and "Bad Company" frontman Paul Rodgers. They closed the show with Free's classic, "All Right Now", with help from the group "the Polyphonic Spree". This performance hinted at the possibility of the return of rock's regal performers after an 18 year hiatus.

By January of 2005, Roger Taylor admitted to German television that they would be touring Europe in the spring and summer of that year, under the name of "Queen + Paul Rodgers". The full line up included original "Queen" members May (guitar, vocals) and Taylor (drums, vocals) as well as former "The Pretenders" and "Brian May Band" member Jamie Moses (guitar, vocals), former "Blue Oyster Cult" bassist Danny Miranda (bass, vocals), Queen's 1986 tour keyboard player Spike Edney (keyboards, vocals) and Paul Rodgers (vocals, occasional guitar). Over the course of 2005, the band played in over a dozen European countries as well as the Aruba Festival, 4 dates in Japan, 2 shows in the U.S.A., and 1 show in South Africa The band embarked upon a large scale tour of Northern America during Spring 2006, hitting 22 venues in the U.S.A. and 2 in Canada.

Some controversy was caused within the "Queen" fan base over the use of the name. There was concern over the fact that Queen's legendary front man, Freddie Mercury, was seemingly being replaced. However, each band member has said this is not the case: Rodgers could never replace Freddie Mercury but brought his own talents to the band. Furthermore, the fact that retired former "Queen" bassist John Deacon was also missing caused some discontent. Yet despite this, by and large "Queen" fans were won over by the band's blues-tinted renditions of "Queen" classics. Additionally, Paul Rodgers' fans were happy with the inclusion of several Free and Bad Company anthems on the set list, providing super-powered versions of tunes such as "All Right Now" and "Can't Get Enough".

After the end of the Return of the Champions Tour, the band set out to and completed their first and heretofore only album The Cosmos Rocks which debuted to warm reviews by fans in September 2008. Consequently the band toured again in late 2008 throughout Europe, Asia, and South America to promote the album. The Rock the Cosmos Tour in all was seen by nearly 1 million people in almost two dozen nations. The tour was highlighted by its first performance, recorded for DVD and CD, where the band played before over 350,000 fans in Freedom Square, Kharkiv, Ukraine. Said show was in fact put together at the last moment to benefit HIV/AIDS awareness.

On 14th May 2009, Paul Rodgers announced that his collaboration with the surviving active members of "Queen" was at and end, and that the "Queen + Paul Rodgers" project was being placed on indefinite hiatus. While, the band members did not rule out working together again, each sought to pursue solo projects, or in the case of Paul Rodgers, a reunion with Bad Company. The band has not gotten back together since, but Rodgers has stated that he's open to the idea of doing more, specially for charity.

Paul Rodgers is a genius, legend and icon. Which other 55 year old could rock a place like this?
Paul sounds better than anyone half his age, and just never hits a bad note.
This is a truly magical concert, the type which you never want to end.
A combination of brilliant musicians and a magnificent tribute to Freddie and Paul’s incredible career.

Best set up since Freddie is gone and a great concert. A unique singer who doesn't want to copy Freddie yet fits superbly into the band giving a fresh sound. Not replacing Freddie but creating something new which is Queen and at the same time not a replica. Well done! Queen will never be the same since we lost the best singer and frontman of all time but this was a wonderful night. I have witnessed it live in Budapest, glad to have this one recorded.

WOW!!!...is an understatement! I've seen Queen (with Freddie M.) in Norman Oklahoma, and Bad Company in Tulsa way back in the day. 2 of my favorite bands back then...And after watching this, I now have a whole new respect for the band Queen and Brian May's guitar talents as well as Paul Rodgers vocals. Enough can not be said of the outstanding quality of this show. I'm glad I saw this...thanks for posting!

Paul Rodgers was a big part of my musical growth as a young guitarist in the 1970s, seeing how a great singer could make the electric guitar so much more powerful. It was my great honor to record a live record for him and Neal Schon decades later. His performance paying tribute to the brilliant writing of Jimi Hendrix just knocked me out, mesmerized the crowd. Being a big Rodgers fan and knowing all about his voice i always thought “what would he do in queen, Freddy’s voice is completely different but damn this video really makes me understand it all. I mean Paul really has some pipes and has even more than just bluesy free, hard rock Bad Co and the Firm. What an overlooked legend !

Paul Rodgers pulled off the impossible to sing in the place of Freddie Mercury who had such a strong wide range vocally. But everybody was on. The solo by Brian May was spectacular, song selection and bringing in footage of Freddie in Bohemain Rhapsody was very classy. The whole production was fantastic from beginning to very the end and brought to the right crowd. Simply Incredible!!

Paul sounds amazing across this whole show but songs like Tie Your Mother Down, Hammer to Fall, A Kind of Magic, Fat Bottomed Girls and I Want to Break Free are absolutely tailor-made for his vocal style. No disrespect to Adam Lambert, Elton John, George Michael (RIP) or any other singer that has sang with Queen since Freddie’s death, but Paul blows them all out of the water.

totally agree, he blows everyone out of the water to me....such a powerhouse voice, Hammer to Fall is amazing with Paul....i actually love Adam Lambert and hes great with Queen, have seen both he and Paul live with them.....but ive never heard another singer thats better than Paul....but i quess its just personal taste really at the end of the day.

The band has and always had top sound and cosistency.Yes Freddie was the one but the sound machine behind him was always on top form and with a new experienced singer you get a good result.The performances are always uncompromising!

Okay so this is FANTASTIC! LOVE the way Paul honors Queen's outstanding catalog and Freddie's memory - but is still very much "Paul" in the process. And the band do spectacular work with Paul's Free and Bad Company offerings (especially "Wishing Well" - WOW!). Thanks so much for posting this.

Love this... Paul is so amazing as is the whole band... He didn't try to imitate Freddie... He was Paul in Queen... Saw them with Adam but Paul is more what I like ... His power and tone are off the chain......

Saw them 5 times and LOVED every minute of it. Paul has an amazing voice and stayed true to himself.
Too bad that he and Brian couldn't work things out...
And still I would die to see Brian and Roger with Marc Martel!

@Martin Powell Yes, Queen+Al are more a broadway show, than a rock show. Marc Martel is a fantastic singer, obviously, but he is also a great songwriter, so they could have made a new album. I doubt they ever will with Adam, for no one will buy that! LOL

I'm a huge Paul Rodgers fan. I don't know what problems he and Brian had. I do know Paul is his own man and needs and wants to be in charge. Also if you look at his career he doesn't stay in one place long. I greatly enjoy Queen plus Paul Rodgers.

Queen here with some serious ass kicking! What a hell of a sound with 1 of the best vocalist ever ,giving them more of an edge rather than theatrical sounding plus hearing some old Free and Bad company songs, just 1 hell of a concert! Vocals and harmonies just amazing and Brian May,1 of the best all time guitarists hands down

I've never really like Queen that much for whatever reason but Paul really makes the band imo. This is how I reckon Queen should always have been. This is kickass, really enjoyed this.

We were here this night in Sheffield when they recorded this DVD and Brian announced that Freddies Mum was there to watch, we had seen them a week earlier in Manchester to but on this night I think because of it being filmed they gave it even extra energy if that's possible! Paul was amazing with Queen, Saw Queen with Adam 3 weeks ago too and production wise it was the best they have ever done since Freddie, Adam was superb! I hope they keep on rocking our world for as long as possible coz these guys live are the best!!!

it's 2020 and I'm just seeing this - Paul Rodgers is really good, Freddie Mercury was really good and I think Adam Lambert is really good. They're just all different but one thing they have in common - they can truly sing Queen songs! I love listening to it all!

I was at the Newcastle gig of both this tour and the following one a couple of years later. I went as a Paul Rodgers fan who was not particularly in love with the stuff Queen did after "Sheer Heart Attack", other than "A Night at The Opera". Paul's not Freddie (and vice versa) but I thought this mix worked really well. It was a great gig. Played live, Queen's music is a very powerful thing!

Paul is in his mid 60's here, his voice is incredible at any age, but to sing with that kind of power song after song, pitch perfect and belting out those amazing high notes is so impressive. Paul has always been my all time favorite vocalist. Watch his concerts in the mid 70's with Bad Company, He was so Sexy and hot.

I have been a fan of Queen since forever and have seen them with Freddie, Adam and Paul. With all due respect to them all, Paul Rodgers is the greatest vocalist in rock history. He stepped up and did this tour with Queen when Queen no longer existed and did great. But when one looks at his work with Free and Bad Company, there is no better in the world. Just my humble opinion.
