Raised in Ypsilanti, Michigan, R&B vocalist Queen Naija first became known as a contestant on multiple seasons of American Idol in the early 2010s. Following that, she became famous as an internet personality for her YouTube channel Chris & Queen. On the channel, Naija (also known as Queen Sails) and her husband Chris Sails would post various humorous videos with an emphasis on elaborate pranks. At the very end of 2017, amid some serious relationship issues, she decided to focus on her music again.
In 2018 she signed a contract with the record label 'Capitol Records', thus starting her solo career. Her debut single, "Medicine", was released in June 2018 and reached 45th place on the Billboard Hot 100. Three weeks later came the second single, "Karma", which came in 63rd position in the standings. An EP titled "Queen" Naija came out on July 27 and debuted in 26th place on the Billboard 200.

Queen Naija's "Butterflies Pt. 2" is a continuation of her first successful single, "Butterflies". This sequel speaks more of her feelings towards a person who has come into her life and made everything right again. At the beginning of the song, Queen Naija makes it clear that this person has been the light that she needed in her formerly dark life, emphasizing their importance in her life. Though this person was initially scared to fall in love again, they still found a way to fall for her. Queen Naija and this person must have been meant to be together because she never loses the butterflies she gets with them, even when they fight.
In the chorus, Queen Naija expresses her amazement at how they both still get butterflies when they are together or see each other, something rare in relationships, especially when they are fighting. She then outlines her vision for their future together, wanting them to be together always, making diamonds under pressure and turning any pain they may face into sweet pleasure. Queen Naija expresses her desire to take their relationship to the next level by wanting their last name regardless of how long it takes. The bridge of “Butterflies Pt. 2” follows the narrative of a person who has found true love, stating how they feel safe with their partner, and how they want to spend forever with them.
