REACHING OUT
Queen Paul Rodgers Lyrics
Jump to: Overall Meaning ↴ Line by Line Meaning ↴
I've been too long on my own
Everybody has a private world
Where they can be alone
Are you calling me?
Are you trying to get through?
Are you reaching out for me?
The lyrics of "Reaching Out / Tie Your Mother Down" can be interpreted as a plea for connection and companionship. The singer admits to feeling isolated and disconnected from others, acknowledging that everyone has their own private world where they retreat to be alone. But the opening phrase "lately I've been hard to reach" suggests a desire to break out of this isolation and connect with others. The questions asked in the chorus - "are you calling me? are you trying to get through?" - are a mirror of the singer's own desire to reach out and connect with others.
There is also a sense of urgency in the lyrics, perhaps reflecting how isolating life can be at times. The repeated phrase "reaching out" emphasizes the importance of connecting with others in a world that can often feel cold and disconnected. The inclusion of "Tie Your Mother Down" in the title reflects the song's original inspiration, an old Queen song that guitarist Brian May brought to the table when he and Paul Rodgers began collaborating. The two songs were eventually blended together to create the version heard on the album "The Cosmos Rocks."

@@leonor9580 I mean a full length version of this live performance of “Reaching out” without the queen song. In my opinion his way of singing it here is the best rendition of it but it’s only part of the song. The studio version is a great song on its own but something about the way he sings it here just seems so much more personal
