somebody to love
Queen ft. George Michael Lyrics

Jump to: Overall Meaning ↴  Line by Line Meaning ↴

Each morning I get up I die a little
Can barely stand on my feet (take a look at yourself)
Take a look in the mirror and cry
Lord, what you're doing to me
I have spent all my years in believing you
But I just can't get no relief, Lord
Somebody uh (somebody) somebody (somebody)
Can anybody find me somebody to love?

I work (he works hard) hard every day of my life
I work 'til I ache my bones
At the end (at the end of the day) I take home my hard earned pay all on my own
I go down on my knees
And I start to pray (praise the Lord)
'Til the tears run down from my eyes
Lord, somebody uh (somebody) somebody (somebody)
Can anybody find me somebody to love?

(He works hard) everyday (everyday)
I try and I try and I try
But everybody wants to put me down
They say I'm goin' crazy
They say I got a lot of water in my brain
I got no common sense
I got nobody left to believe
Yeah, yeah, yeah, yeah, yeah

Oh, Lord
Somebody uh (somebody) somebody (somebody)
Can anybody find me somebody to love?

(Can anybody find me somebody to love?)
Got no feel, I got no rhythm
I just keep losing my beat
I'm alright, I'm alright (he's alright)
I ain't gonna face no defeat
I just gotta get out of this prison cell
Someday I'm gonna be free, Lord

Find me somebody to love
Find me somebody to love
Find me somebody to love
Find me somebody to love
Find me somebody to love
Find me somebody to love
Find me somebody to love
Find me somebody to love
Find me somebody to love
Somebody (somebody) somebody (somebody)
Somebody find me, somebody find me somebody to love
Can anybody find me
Somebody to come on, love, yeah

Find me somebody to love
Find me somebody to love
Find me somebody, somebody, somebody to love (find me somebody to love)
Find me, find me, find me, find me uh somebody to love
Find me somebody to love

Find me somebody to love (anybody, anywhere)
Somebody, somebody to love yeah yeah oh (find me somebody to love)

Overall Meaning

The lyrics of Queen's song "Somebody to love," featuring George Michael, showcase an individual in distress over the lack of love in their life. The song captures the devastation one experiences after years of searching for someone to love, with no success. The first verse speaks to the pain the individual experiences each day, having to face themselves in the mirror, seeing the loneliness they feel inside. The individual has spent all their life believing they will eventually find love but has yet to find any relief. Hence, the chorus repeatedly asks if anyone can find them somebody to love.

The second verse reveals how hard the individual works to keep themselves occupied, despite the feeling of loneliness always lurking in the background. They work so hard that they ache, but still, it doesn't consistently bring fulfillment or joy. They pray for someone to love, but the tears come running down their eyes, and even praying hasn't worked. In the bridge, the individual explains how everyone around them keeps putting them down, believing they're crazy and lack common sense, leaving them with nobody to believe in.

Overall, the lyrics of the song are extremely emotional and showcase the agony one experiences due to a lack of love. Even though an individual is functioning and surviving, the emptiness they feel inside doesn't disappear easily. The song is a call for help, a cry for somebody to find them somebody to love.

I think we need a tribute concert for George Michael.

@JG_SmileSOBright

Agreed!!! Maxwell would be a great choice!

@maryg4575

God, yes!

@PFCD

Sadly I don't think we'll ever get one because with the exception of a handful of singers they would butcher his songs because he had such a phenomenal voice. Adam Lambert and Rob Lamberti would pretty much have to do the whole tribute concert. That would be okay with me though!

@kevinfletcher5872

I gotta be honest...I'd love to see one, but who? Adam Lambert is a tribute to Fred as well as being great in his own right, George?? I'll give it some thought.

@greg acosta Did you ever hear George Michael tell the story how Michael Jackson disrespected him? He went to Neverland as Michael insisted George go there and they were going to discuss doing a single. He said after Michael made him STAND in the foyer for half an hour then Michael was sitting across from him on couches and Michael would not talk to him directly. He would talk to his manager and tell him to talk to Rob kahane to then talk to George. George said this guy is straight-up crazy, no amount of money is worth being disrespected in this way and I want nothing to do with him. It was either 87 or 88 George sold more records than Michael. I agree with your jealousy assessment. George could easily sing R&B pop and dance music, wrote his own songs and played on them and could dance. Strikingly gorgeous he was....defined as normal. Definitely things Michael Jackson wouldn't like.

Nobody can sing like Freddie Mercury, but George Michael is the best vocalist cover Queen has ever had. Brilliant performance
