I Don't Believe in Love
Queensrÿche Lyrics

Jump to: Overall Meaning ↴  Line by Line Meaning ↴

I awoke on impact
Under surveillance from the camera eye
Searching high and low
The criminal mind found at the scene of the crime
Handcuffed and blind, I didn't do it
She said she loved me
I guess I never knew
But do we ever, ever really know?
She said she'd meet me on the other side
But I knew right then, I'd never find her

I don't believe in love
I never have, I never will
I don't believe in love
It's never worth the pain that you feel

No more nightmares, I've seen them all
From the day I was born
They've haunted my every move
Every open hand's there to push and shove
No time for love it doesn't matter
She made a difference
I guess she had a way
Of making every night seem bright as day
Now I walk in shadows, never see the light
She must have lied 'cause she never said goodbye

I don't believe in love
I never have, I never will
I don't believe in love
I'll just pretend she never was real
I don't believe in love
I need to forget her face, I see it still
I don't believe in love
It's never worth the pain that you feel

No chance for contact
There's no raison d'etre
My only hope is one day I'll forget
The pain of knowing what can never be
With or without love it's all the same to me

I don't believe in love
I never have, I never will
I don't believe in love
I'll just pretend she never was real
I don't believe in love
I never have, I never will
I don't believe in love

It's never worth the pain that you feel, feel
The pain that you feel, feel

Overall Meaning

The song "I Don't Believe in Love" by Queensrÿche speaks of a man who wakes up under surveillance from the camera eye and finds himself accused of committing a crime he didn't do. He remembers the woman he loved who promised to meet him on the other side, but he knows he will never find her. He has never believed in love and sees it as not worth the pain it causes. He has seen nightmares ever since he was born, pushing and shoving him, leaving no time for love. The woman he loved made a difference, but she never said goodbye, leading him to walk in shadows and never see the light. He thinks that, with or without love, it's all the same to him as he can never forget the pain.

The lyrics of the song suggest a story of pain and loss, of an innocent man accused of a crime he didn't commit, and a woman who betrayed him, leaving him in darkness. The repeating line "I don't believe in love" is significant as it shows the man's belief that love doesn't exist, and it's just a source of pain. The song's somber tone and moody instrumentals add to the emotions conveyed, making it a powerful song with a deep meaning that connects with listeners.

Queensryche - I Don't Believe In Love

I awoke on impact
Under surveillance from the camera eye,
Searching high and low

The criminal mind found at the scene of the crime
Handcuffed and blind, I didn't do it.

She said she loved me,
I guess I never knew
But do we ever, ever really know?
She said she'd meet me on the other side
But I knew right then, I'd never find her.

I don't believe in love
I never have, I never will
I don't believe in love.
It's never worth the pain that you feel

No more nightmares, I've seen them all
From the day I was born, they've haunted my every move
Every open hand's there to push and shove
No time for love.
It doesn't matter.

She made a difference,
I guess she had a way,
Of making every night seem bright as day.
Now I walk in shadows, never see the light,
She must have lied 'cause she never said goodbye

I don't believe in love
I never have, I never will
I don't believe in love
I'll just pretend she never was real
I don't believe in love
I need to forget her face, I see it still
I don't believe in love
It's never worth the pain that you feel

No chance for contact
There's no raison d'etre
My only hope is one day I'll forget
The pain of knowing what can never be
With or without love it's all the same to me.

I don't believe in love
I never have, I never will
I don't believe in love
I'll just pretend she never was real
I don't believe in love
I need to forget her face, I see it still
I don't believe in love
It's never worth the pain that you feel

In my book, Queensryche in its prime is by far the most underrated band ever. Who else is with me on this?

@Dayandcounting

I don't think they were under rated just not an everybody kind of band. Saw them live twice, this tour and the following one, they were flawless and the live recordings speak for them selves as to how good the sounded live.

@6PERRYFAN4

@@Dayandcounting I said they were underrated because there were tons of crappy bands that received far more recognition and record sales.

@guitarmanx1499

@@6PERRYFAN4 Don't forget they are/were considered "a thinking person's band" just like Conception, Threshold, Symphony X, etc. Those bands were / are mostly relatively less popular than bands without thoughtful lyrics, e.g. lyrics about love, lust, partying etc. Saw them live with DeGarmo and Tate twice and they were fantastic.

@timcolder2789

Yes agree with that. Many of my mates who are into metal have never bought any albums by them and in the the UK they are virtually unknown unless you are a fan. Even Maiden and Priest are far more popular abroad which says it all. Tate and D'garmo are both great performers and I rate Geoff Tate in my top three front men.

For a few minutes, It was 1990 again, I was sitting in my living room, drinking beer with my neighbor and listening to Empire. Not a care in the world other than listening to Queensryche and feeling so alive. I'm 63 now and so much has taken place since I first heard this. But for a brief few minutes, I find peace.

@Michael-eu1mz
