NIGHTRIDER
Queensryche Lyrics

Jump to: Overall Meaning ↴  Line by Line Meaning ↴

Beware of night for we all know he's loose again
Behind him lies the eyes of mercy and despair
Forever living out his nightmare comes to life
From hell this spell will find its way to you
Tonight
Tonight

A thousand cries are heard, they echo in the wind
And still the rider will unleash his chosen sin
The victims of his rage are soldiers of his mind
His scream will heed the call of those who stand behind

The nightrider sails away
The nightrider sails yeah

By day the rider will have vanished from all eyes
Seen from within the only answer to him lies
But as the rays of light begin to fade away
The rider will return to carry out his stay

The nightrider sails away
The nightrider sails yeah

Beware of the night
Beware of the night

Beware of the night
Oh god, beware of the night

Overall Meaning

The lyrics of Nightrider by Queensryche describe the ominous presence of a rider who unleashes terror upon unsuspecting victims. The song begins with a warning to beware of night, for the rider is loose again, and behind him lie both mercy and despair. The rider lives out his nightmare and unleashes it upon others, and the spell of terror can find its way to anyone at any time. The lyrics talk about the echoes of cries that can be heard in the wind as the rider unleashes his chosen sin upon the victims of his rage, who are soldiers of the rider's mind. His scream will heed the call of those who stand behind him.

The second verse describes how the rider vanishes from all eyes by day, but those who see him from within know his true nature. As the rays of light begin to fade away, the rider returns to carry out his reign of terror once again. The song ends with a final warning to beware of the night and the nightrider that sails away.

Overall, the lyrics paint a picture of a terrifying figure who moves under the cover of darkness and unleashes his nightmares upon others. The song is a cautionary tale about the dangers that can lurk in the shadows and reminds us to be wary of the unknown.

Oh yeah. Every Queensryche song I've ever heard, I've been blown away by the DRAMATIC POWERFUL VOICE. It's made me realise that when a band can rock AND sing well, THOSE ones are my favourite. :D

This is pure heavy metal USPM. I was born in 1968. In the early 80,s become fan of Priest, Maiden, Saxon, Dio, Ozzy, ....then came the USPM, inheritors of the British Metal. I bought this EP in 1983. Later came the thrash metal and hair metal, i like both genres also, but i always preferred the british metal and USPM, classic heavy metal... and even today...the music, the attitude... forever be part of my ADN

You're not wrong...USPM was the TRUE metal of the 80s! Ryche, Manilla Road, Helstar, Omen, Cirith Ungol, Savage Grace, Heir Apparent...
