Sign Of The Times
Quiet Riot Lyrics

Jump to: Overall Meaning ↴  Line by Line Meaning ↴

Well I have street sense radar
Ooh, is supposed be news
You better lock up your daughters
You never know when we're due

Good news, bad news
It's all the same
Addicts on main streets
They give us the blame

Hey! Hey! Hey! Hey!
We're a sign of the times
Having fun ain't no crime
We're a sign of the times
Having fun all the time, yeah

Great impersonators
We broke all the rules
We laugh with our masks on
The joke is on you

You're getting furry
It does you no good
It's the same old story
It's a human zoo

Hey! Hey! Hey! Hey!
We're a sign of the times
Having fun ain't no crime
We're a sign of the times
Having fun all the time, yeah

My, my, my, my, yeah
Hey!
Hey!
Hey!
Hey!

Cha!
Cha!

I see a sign up ahead
Got it's lights flashing red
I can see you're the same
These are the words that I read

Long live rock and roll (Roll!)
Long live rock and roll (Roll!)
Long live rock and roll
It's gonna save your soul

Good news, bad news
It's all the same
Addicts on main streets
Please, please give us a break

Hey! Hey! Hey! Hey!
We're a sign of the times
Having fun ain't no crime
We're a sign of the times
Having fun all the time

Hey!
We're just a sign of the times
We're just a sign of the times
We're just a sign of the times, yeah
We're a sign of the times

Having fun all the time
Hey! Hey! Hey! Hey!

Overall Meaning

The song "Sign of the Times" by Quiet Riot talks about the inevitability of change and the idea that people must adapt to the current social climate or end up being left behind. The lyrics refer to the band as a "sign of the times," which is a term that refers to cultural symbols or movements that represent the spirit of a particular era. The song portrays the band members as free-spirited, rule-breakers who are unapologetic about their lifestyle and their music. The lyrics also touch on themes of addiction and societal judgment.

The chorus of the song emphasizes the band's carefree attitude and their desire to have fun without judgment. The phrase "having fun ain't no crime" is repeated several times, further reinforcing this sentiment. The verses, on the other hand, describe the challenges that come with being a sign of the times, such as being blamed for societal problems and criticized for breaking social norms.

@TK-ex5ns

I treasure the fact that I had the pleasure of meeting and shaking hands with Kevin and Frankie after a show in mid 90s when, because of grunge, we're literally in a van and loading thier own gear etc. Like they were starting over.
