El Pueblo Unido Jamás Será Vencido
Quilapayún Lyrics

Jump to: Overall Meaning ↴  Line by Line Meaning ↴

El pueblo unido, jamás será vencido,
el pueblo unido jamás será vencido...

De pie, cantar
que vamos a triunfar.
Avanzan ya
banderas de unidad.
Y tú vendrás
marchando junto a mí
y así verás
tu canto y tu bandera florecer.
La luz
de un rojo amanecer
anuncia ya
la vida que vendrá.

De pie, luchar
el pueblo va a triunfar.
Será mejor
la vida que vendrá
a conquistar
nuestra felicidad
y en un clamor
mil voces de combate se alzarán,
dirán
canción de libertad,
con decisión
la patria vencerá.

Y ahora el pueblo
que se alza en la lucha
con voz de gigante
gritando: ¡adelante!

El pueblo unido, jamás será vencido,
el pueblo unido jamás será vencido...

La patria está
forjando la unidad.
De norte a sur
se movilizará
desde el salar
ardiente y mineral
al bosque austral
unidos en la lucha y el trabajo
irán,
la patria cubrirán.
Su paso ya
anuncia el porvenir.

De pie, cantar
el pueblo va a triunfar.
Millones ya,
imponen la verdad,
de acero son
ardiente batallón,
sus manos van
llevando la justicia y la razón.
Mujer,
con fuego y con valor,
ya estás aquí
junto al trabajador.

Y ahora el pueblo
que se alza en la lucha
con voz de gigante
gritando: ¡adelante!

El pueblo unido, jamás será vencido,
el pueblo unido jamás será vencido...

Overall Meaning

The song "El Pueblo Unido Jamás Será Vencido" by Quilapayún is a powerful anthem of unity and determination in the face of oppression. The opening line, "El pueblo unido, jamás será vencido" (The people united will never be defeated), is repeated throughout the song as a rallying cry for the masses to come together and fight for their rights.

The first stanza sets the tone for the rest of the song, with a call to stand up and fight for victory. The image of banners of unity moving forward creates a sense of momentum and possibility. The second stanza focuses on the promise of a better future, with the idea that the people's happiness and freedom can be achieved through struggle. The song then celebrates the power of the people, describing their strength as "a voice of giants" and exclaiming "adelante" (forward) as a signal to keep fighting.

The final stanza speaks directly to women, who are depicted as powerful allies of the working class. The image of a woman standing alongside a laborer is a powerful symbol of solidarity and shows how all members of society must work together to achieve lasting change. The song ends with a powerful refrain, repeating the idea that when the people are together, they cannot be defeated.

@infra8466

For all the english folks: I've tried to do a translation of this gorgeous athem, however, keep in mind translating this athem is really tricky and therefore I had to take some liberties in order to finalize it.
I'm opened to any suggestions on how to improve it.

The people, united, shall never be defeated
the people, united, shall never be defeated

Stand up, sing cause we're gonna win
you can see flags of unity advancing already
and you'll come to march alongside me
and like so, you'll see
your flag and your banner flourishing.
The light of a red sunrise
announces the upcoming life.

Stand up, fight, people's gonna win
the life that'll come will be better
let's conquer our happiness
and, in a clamour, ten thousand voices of combat will arise
singing a song of freedom.
With courage, the fatherland shall triumph.

And now, the people, who is arising in the fight
with the voice of a giant,
acclaiming freedom.

The people, united, shall never be defeated
the people united shall never be defeated

The fatherland'll be found, coining unity.
From north to south, it will mobilize
From the "Salar", fiery and mineral,
to the Austral Forest.
United in the fight, they'll go
covering the fatherland.
Their steps herald the future.

Stand up, sing, people's gonna win
millions of people are imposing the truth
flaming batallion of steel
carring justice and rights.

And now, woman, with fire and braveness
here you are with the worker.

And now, the people, who is arising in the fight
with the voice of a giant,
acclaiming freedom.
