Premonición A La Muerte De Joaquín Murieta
Quilapayún Lyrics
Jump to: Overall Meaning ↴ Line by Line Meaning ↴
que mueve el desierto
escucha el reloj
que entierra a los muertos.
Atrás bandolero
la muerte te aguarda,
llegaron los galgos,
murió una guitarra,
será derramada.
¿Oíste Murieta?
Ya no montarás,
ya no correrás,
ya no vengarás,
ya no vivirás.
La tierra te advierte
se cumple el destino,
los galgos te acechan,
termina tu suerte,
te siguen las huellas,
no traigas la rosa,
el llanto en la luna
la lluvia prepara,
se acerca la muerte
te aguarda la fosa.
¡Murieta deténte!
The song "Premonición A La Muerte De Joaquín Murieta" by Quilapayún talks about the impending doom of Joaquín Murieta, a legendary Chilean bandit who became a symbol of resistance against the American and Chilean authorities during the California Gold Rush. The opening lines "Escucha la arena que mueve el desierto, escucha el reloj que entierra a los muertos" create a vivid image of the desert landscape where Murieta spent his life and foreshadow his imminent death. The following verse "Atrás bandolero la muerte te aguarda" warns Murieta that death is waiting for him, and he won't be able to escape it.
The chorus "Ya no montarás, ya no correrás, ya no vengarás, ya no vivirás" is a poignant reminder that Murieta's life is coming to an end, and he won't be able to ride, run, avenge or live anymore. The following verse "La tierra te advierte se cumple el destino, los galgos te acechan, termina tu suerte" emphasizes that fate has caught up with Murieta, and his pursuers are closing in on him. The repetition of the phrase "te aguarda la fosa" is a grim reminder that Murieta's destiny is to end up in a grave. The song is a powerful portrayal of Murieta's tragic fate and a tribute to his legendary status as a folk hero and a symbol of resistance.
