I've been listening to the "Q" since I was 17. He is one of my musical arranging heros. I have noticed that Quincy when recording a tune for the second time will change the arrangement...the man's musical ideas are endless. He is a contemporary musical genius that is required listening for anyone entertaining the idea of becoming an arranger in this modern age.

Thanks for this post...you truly know your music...

It's those kind of songs that put me in a transformative mood in a second. The great "Q" delivering this 1974 performance along with a stellar cast of established musicians and A-list session players. Listening to this, reminds me of the NASA Apollo astronauts walking on the Moon while enjoying this piece of music. It would be extraordinary!

1957 when I was 13 I hitchiked 90 km alone to hear Quincy Jones big band.
Rehersals started already after lunch in the hotel's lounge with open doors, so we could lie in the grass outside and enjoy. (I have no memory from the official performance later in the evening.)
