Stuff Like That
Quincy Jones Lyrics

Jump to: Overall Meaning ↴  Line by Line Meaning ↴

Walked in the joint
They were lined up back to back
Anything you can name, no shame
Uh, uh, an' stuff like that
Do it, do it, do it, do it

What makes you feel like doin' stuff like that?
What makes you feel like doin' stuff like that?

Before my eyes was the promise of paradise
Is she real, can she feel, is she a dream
If you know what I mean
'Cause she was built out of stuff like that
Do it, do it

Stuff like that
Do it, do it
Stuff like that
Do it, do it
Stuff like that

I knew I was captured
By the rhythm of the magic flute
Pulling and urging me
To taste the forbidden fruit

And though I felt naive
I did not want to leave, fever was in the air
And all of us sudden and I didn't care
And no reason why, I just had to testify

What makes you feel like doin' stuff like that?
What makes you feel like doin' stuff like that?
What makes you feel like doin' stuff like that?
What makes you feel like doin' stuff like that?
Do it, do it, do it, do it, do it, do it, do it, do it

I knew I was captured
By the rhythm of the magic flute
Pulling and urging me
To taste the forbidden fruit

And though I felt naive
I did want to play, fever was in the air
And all of us sudden and I didn't care
And no reason why, I just had to testify

What makes you feel like doin' stuff like that?
What makes you feel like doin' stuff like that?
What makes you feel like doin' stuff like that?
What makes you feel like doin' stuff like that?

Do it, do it
Stuff like that
Do it, do it
Stuff like that
Do it, do it
Stuff like that
Do it, do it
Stuff like that

Stuff like that, stuff like that
What makes you feel like doin' stuff like that?
What makes you feel like doin' stuff like that?
What makes you feel like doin' stuff like that?
What makes you feel like doin' stuff like that?

I can't tell you, what I saw
Made you one was it against the law
It was not how you could you go
Thought exactly how low

What makes you feel like doin' stuff like that?
What makes you feel like doin' stuff like that?

All of a sudden, I didn't care
And no reason why, had to testify

Do it, do it
Stuff like that
Do it, do it
Stuff like that
Do it, do it
Stuff like that
Do it, do it
Stuff like that

Stuff like that, stuff like that

Overall Meaning

The lyrics of Quincy Jones's song "Stuff Like That" describe the feeling of being taken over by the energy and excitement of a party. The first verse talks about walking into a crowded room and being surrounded by people who are doing all kinds of wild things. The refrain asks, "What makes you feel like doin' stuff like that?" as if to say that the excitement and energy of the party is what draws people in and makes them want to dance, drink, and just generally let loose.

The second verse is more introspective, with the singer describing how he is drawn to a woman who seems to be "built out of stuff like that." The bridge of the song has a recurring theme of feeling captured by the rhythm of the music, and being pulled in by the temptation to indulge in forbidden pleasures. The final verse ends with a repetition of the refrain, emphasizing how the excitement and energy of the party is what makes people want to let go and have fun.

Overall, the song has a joyful and playful energy, with lyrics that celebrate the feeling of being overcome by the moment and letting loose.

Makes it want to get my turntable and JBLs back from the kids. I gave this album to my daughter. The only other group that could bring this talent together is Walter Becker and Donald Fagan.
