Cry Me A River
Quinn Lemley Lyrics

You cried the whole night through
Well you can cry me a river, cry me a river
I cried a river over you
Now you say you're sorry
For being so untrue
Well you can cry me a river, cry me a river
You drove me, nearly drove me out of my head
While you never shed a tear
Remember, I remember all that you said
Told me love was too plebeian
Told me you were through with me
And now you say you love me
Well just to prove you do
Come on and cry me a river, cry me a river
I cried a river over you
Go on and cry me a river, cry me a river
I cried a river............over you
The song "Cry Me a River" by Quinn Lemley is about a person who has been hurt in a relationship and is now being confronted by their ex-partner, who claims to be lonely and sorry for their past behavior. However, the person singing the song has already cried a river over their ex-partner and is not willing to forgive them easily. The lyrics suggest that the ex-partner was unfaithful, causing the person singing to suffer emotional pain that they struggled to cope with.
The opening lines, "Now you say you're lonely, you cried the whole night through," set the stage for the rest of the song. The repetition of "cry me a river" throughout the lyrics emphasizes the depth of the singer's pain and highlights the irony of the situation as the ex-partner now experiences the same thing. The verse "You drove me, nearly drove me out of my head, while you never shed a tear" suggests that the ex-partner was emotionally distant, adding insult to injury.
The line "Told me love was too plebeian, told me you were through with me" highlights the class differences and feelings of rejection between the two individuals. Despite the ex-partner's confession of love, the singer remains unyielding, demanding that they cry a river to prove their sincerity. The song is a powerful statement of resilience and self-respect.
