In 1993 Quorthon set Bathory aside and recorded and released two albums under the name "Quorthon". The first was Album released in 1994, and Purity of Essence followed in 1997. The albums were more Grunge/Rock oriented than Bathory's Black Metal/Viking Metal style. While working on these albums he found new inspiration to continue composing music for Bathory.
Boy
Quorthon Lyrics

He's watching silently
Madness is all that he can see
He stands alone, solo
Now when my big wide bring???
He's lost for will to relieve
They built me up, this dreaming
They turn these things that he is needing
The boy in the bubble
He wants a gun
I bet you didnt know know
For the boy in the bubble
All is very wrong
I bet you didnt know know
The school that he had played in:
This kid is sick beyond belief
This boy did not care to give back just to receive
They trod on him sat hiding
From all of the terror and the scorn
That he was never asked to be born
Destroying his youth and feelings
They tore his trust is no more than leaving
They push this kid way too far
The boy in the bubble
He wants a gun
I bet you didnt know know
For the boy in the bubble
All is very wrong
I bet you didnt know know
In sudden death he somehow
He has got to fight betrayal
The lyrics of the song "Boy" by Quorthon depict a young boy who is struggling to navigate the world around him. The opening verse portrays the boy as being isolated and alone, with madness being the only thing he can see. The boy is lost and overwhelmed, with no one to turn to and no relief in sight. The second verse describes the boy's experiences with bullying and mistreatment by his peers. The boy is sick and tired of being used and taken advantage of and wants to fight back, even if it means resorting to violence. The chorus repeats the phrase "boy in the bubble," highlighting the boy's isolation and vulnerability.
The song is a powerful commentary on the struggles of young people who feel ostracized and alone in a world that is often hostile and uncaring. Quorthon captures the pain and frustration of those who feel trapped and powerless, and he encourages listeners to empathize with and support those who are struggling. The song is a reminder that we all have a responsibility to look out for those who are most vulnerable and to work together to build a kinder, more compassionate world.

Since my introduction to Bathory, it has gotten to the point where thinking about Quorthon's life, music, and words both warm and shatter my heart. I never knew him, but I miss him like I would a dear friend.

He was a brilliant Musician. It's sad knowing he wasn't even out of his prime and had so many projects lined up. Sad knowing I will never experience his golden years.

Part of this song is sad.....and I feel I can identify with it. I'm a high functioning autistic.........and have a difficult time connecting with people socially.....I had friends and plenty of contact with others in school, but I was always different. The opening with the school children and the bell....the obvious feeling of isolation the lyrics seem to convey "the boy in the bubble" "all is very wrong, bet you didn't know no....".

I have aspergers and it's rather mild luckily because of the work I've done with myself and it never being a very serious form of autism in the first place. I was always strange though and I only ever had one real friend, but I never belonged anywhere, and because of some certain habits and other stuff I developed derrealization and ptsd which made me even more disconnected, I was always living in a world of thought and silent observation, but it became a lot more apparent. Now I'm working towards changing and I have already found two friends, being in the 11th grade. Hang in there. It's ok to be different
