In 1993 Quorthon set Bathory aside and recorded and released two albums under the name "Quorthon". The first was Album released in 1994, and Purity of Essence followed in 1997. The albums were more Grunge/Rock oriented than Bathory's Black Metal/Viking Metal style. While working on these albums he found new inspiration to continue composing music for Bathory.

The other day sometime ago on the radio
They played that song again it still sounds the same
Outside my window all the rain is pouring down again
The night is still its way past three
Another cup of tea 'coz I can't sleep
In two hours you'll get out of bed
And outside my window all the rain keeps pouring down again
Washing all the dirt and hurt away so they say
And outside my window all the rain keeps pouring down again
Washing all the dirt and hurt away
Outside my window all the rain keeps pouring down again
I wonder if where you are it is raining just the same
Just the same
The lyrics to Quorthon’s “Just the Same” are a poetic introspection on loneliness, love lost, and the cyclical nature of life. The lyricist paints a vivid picture of staring out into the rain, unable to sleep, and stumbling upon a memory triggered by a familiar song. The lyrics suggest that despite the pain of loss and the bitterness of change, life goes on, repeating itself just the same. The song seems to have a slow, melancholic melody to emphasize the mood of the lyrics.
The verse about stumbling upon “moosehead-slippers” is a vivid image that evokes a memory of a past lover or girlfriend. The line “they played that song again it still sounds the same” implies that the song is tied to a memory of this person - a memory that is both bittersweet and unchanging. The imagery of rain washing away the dirt and hurt suggests that time and memories can heal wounds, but the final verse leaves the listener with a sense of longing and uncertainty. The mention of wondering if “where you are it is raining just the same” speaks to the theme of universality and the idea that everyone experiences the ups and downs of life, even if they are separated by time and distance.
