Please Pardon Me
RÜFÜS Lyrics

Please, pardon me, but I'm longing to speak
I hope you don't mind my staring
I don't mind 'cause your face looks so kind
Seldom you'll find someone so daring

You remind me of a friend of mine
Oh, I've lost (the) time, yeah
Every time I see your face
You remind me of that someone
In fact, it's true, it's you
Runnin' right into you

I hope you don't mind you look like a friend of mine
And it's seldom you find a face that's so kind
I hope you don't mind you look like a friend of mine
And it's seldom you find a face that's so kind

Please, pardon me, but I'm all into spirit
I hope you don't mind my starin'
I don't mind 'cause your face looks so kind
Seldom you'll find someone so daring

Every time I see your face
You remind me of that someone

In fact, it was you
Runnin' right into you

Overall Meaning

The song Please Pardon Me by Rufus Featuring Chaka Khan is a soulful and nostalgic track that speaks of longing to connect with someone who resembles a lost friend. The opening line "please pardon me, but I'm longing to speak" sets the tone for the rest of the song, as it expresses a deep yearning to communicate and connect with someone. The singer sees someone who looks like a friend they have lost touch with and can't help but stare, but they hope that the person doesn't mind this.

The second verse reveals that the person reminds the singer of a specific friend they have lost "Oh, I've lost (the) time, yeah." Every time they see the person's face, they are reminded of their friend, and the resemblance is striking. The chorus repeats the idea that the person looks so kind, and it's rare to find someone so daring.

The last verse highlights the singer's spiritual connection with the person and their fascination with their kind face. The song concludes with the singer realizing that it was, in fact, the person they were reminded of who they encountered, "in fact, it was you, runnin' right into you."

Overall, Please Pardon Me is a beautiful song about the yearning to connect with someone you've lost touch with, and the serendipitous joy of running into them in unexpected places.

This song takes me back to a "simpler life" as a kid, where people interacted with each other instead of using a phone and played outside in the environment and not in the house.

One of my favorite songs by a young Chaka. l always loved how she matched her own voice in the background singing both lead and background along with Vesta Williams. But on here that's both Chaka on lead and background! Damn the harmony of her harmonizing with her own voice

@soonnya

"l always loved how she matched her own voice in the background singing both lead and background" She is so incredibly AWESOME - there wasn't/isn't anyone that could harmonize with her background vocals...also, she is a pioneer on this topic b/c (I believe) she was the very first to do lead & background vocals on her own tracks. Today many artist copy her.

@daphnesmith1812

Whitney Houston did some of her backgrounds,Luther
