Let Me Know
Róisín Murphy呔㈲ Lyrics

Jump to: Overall Meaning ↴  Line by Line Meaning ↴

I turn the other way
I'll never turn you down
You turn me on
Don't speak out every meaning

I don't belong to you
You don't belong to me
So don't hold on too tightly

Let me know when you're lonely, babe
Let me know when you're lonely, babe

Happier now than I've been in the past
Gone are the days
Gone are the tears
That was a girl I used to be

The girl that you now see standing in front of you
Keeps going on
Because she believes
In setting you free

So let me know when you're lonely, babe
Let me know when you're lonely, baby
Let me know when you're lonely, babe
Let me know when you're lonely, baby

I turn the other way
I can never turn you down
You turn me on
Don't speak out every meaning

I don't belong to you
Like you don't belong to me
So don't hold on too tightly
There forever be

So let me know when you're lonely, babe
Let me know when you're lonely, baby
Let me know when you're lonely, babe
Let me know when you're lonely, baby

Let me know when you're lonely, babe
(It might be sweet)
Let me know when you're lonely, baby
(If we could be)

Let me know when you're lonely, babe
(Along the way)
Let me know when you're lonely, baby
(That could be okay)

You're always saying
In this cynical thing
Hold me
No ball and chain

I risk my reputation
Just to get a room
You always have the reservation
So come lie down beside me

So let me know when you're lonely, babe
Let me know when you're lonely, baby
(Beside me)

Let me know when you're lonely, babe
(Beside me)
Let me know when you're lonely, baby
(Beside me)

So let me know when you're lonely, babe
(It might be sweet)
Let me know when you're lonely, baby
(If we could be)

Let me know when you're lonely, babe
(Along the way)
Let me know when you're lonely, baby
(That could be okay)

That could be okay
It might be sweet
If we could be

Along the way
That could be okay

Overall Meaning

The lyrics to Roisin Murphy's song "Let Me Know" describe a relationship that isn't based on ownership or possession. The singer and the subject of the song don't belong to each other, and they aren't interested in holding on too tightly. Instead, the singer asks that their partner let them know when they feel lonely, and the two can come together on their own terms. The song is about independence, self-acceptance, and above all, communication.

The first verse suggests that the singer is someone who will always be there for their partner. They "turn the other way" and "never turn [their partner] down." The subject of the song, on the other hand, doesn't need to speak out every meaning, suggesting that they are more reserved or guarded in their emotions. The chorus repeats the titular phrase "let me know when you're lonely, babe" and emphasizes the freedom that both partners have to pursue other options if they so choose.

The second verse suggests that the singer has gone through a transformation, shedding the tears and pain of their past self. The new version of themselves is focused on setting their partner free and not trying to control or manipulate them. The bridge features a spoken word section where the singer talks about risking their reputation to be with their partner, while the partner always has a reservation. The song's final repetition of "let me know when you're lonely, babe" suggests that the subject has heard the request and will take it to heart.

Let me know, let me know, let me know
Let me know what's up with you, ooh
Let me know, let me know
Let me know, let me know if you comfortable, ooh
Let me know, let me know
Let me know, let me know what's up with you, ooh
Let me know, let me know
Let me know, let me know if you comfortable, ooh
I found your vibe, and I- and I found my high, yeah
Let's touch the sky, I'ma- I'ma change your life, yeah
Do you realize I love the way you look me in my eyes, yeah?
Don't kill my vibe, nigga, don't kill my vibe, yeah
On top of my game nigga we aren't the same, ayy
I wonder why lame niggas think that they run things
I wonder why, I- I wonder why, yeah
Just feel the vibes, just- just feel the vibes, yeah
Let me know, let me know, let me know
Let me know what's up with you, ooh
Let me know, let me know
Let me know, let me know if you comfortable, ooh
Let me know, let me know
Let me know, let me know what's up with you, ooh
Let me know, let me know
Let me know, let me know if you comfortable, ooh
Now when you left- left, it wasn't right, yeah
I took a left, swerve, then I took a right, yeah
I was feeling right, yeah, see it in the night air
They talking dumb, well frankly I don't care
Do you realize I'm the man and I'm in my prime, yeah?
And it's my time, I swear to god I won't waste no time, yeah
You ain't worth a dime, no, you ain't worth a dime, yeah
Still on my mind, whoa, you're still on my mind, yeah
Let me know, let me know, let me know
Let me know what's up with you, ooh
Let me know, let me know
Let me know, let me know if you comfortable, ooh
Let me know, let me know
Let me know, let me know what's up with you, ooh
Let me know, let me know
Let me know, let me know if you comfortable, ooh
I wonder why, I- I wonder why, yeah
Just feel the vibes, just- just feel the vibes
I wonder why, I- I wonder why, yeah
Just feel the vibes, just- just feel the vibes
I wonder why, I- I wonder why, yeah
Just feel the vibes, just- just feel the vibes

Moment of silence for those who can’t find this song.

Edit after 2 months (Dec. 8, 2019): Now a moment of silence to the young legend Juice. No matter if you were a fan or not, he’s been there for you some way, and yes I may be wrong but now that he’s gone some might see how he impacted them, fly high King Juice. Condolences to his friends and family and those who he held close. All us fans should take some time to appreciate those around us, we never know what could happen.🙏😪

Edit after a year (Dec. 8, 2020): Hey Juice. It’s been a year. I come back to this every now and then to remind myself of how much an impact you’ve had throughout the year. You’ve impacted many of us and especially have gotten me throughout this year, and I just want to thank you even though you’re not able to see this. I hope we can all meet again someday but for now just know we love you Juice. We may not have a personal relationship with you but to us you alone are some people’s happiness, and I want to appreciate you for all you’ve done. It’s been 1 whole year of your passing and yet you’ve made and are still making a huge impact. Hope to see you one day Juice, #LLJW🕊❤️

Edit after 2 years (Dec. 8, 2021): I can’t even believe it’s been 2 years since we’ve lost you Juice. A lot of good has come out this year, even for me personally. Things are somewhat coming back to normal, despite all the bad still going on in this world. Your music has helped me get through this year, even if I haven’t been listening to you as often as I used to, but a lot of my memories this year are associated with your music. Everytime I see this comment it reminds me of how much I’ve grown knowing you can’t age with us, but it also makes me feel better knowing you’re at peace and that you don’t have to go through anymore pain. Two years without you has been really tough especially because of the fact that you can never get really over a person’s death, but at the same time I know it’s getting easier to move forward, even while still knowing you’re gone. I pray for those that you were close to because I know how hard these times can be, and I wish them nothing but happiness. To anyone reading this, always remember to tell those you hold close you love them because you never know when it will be too late, especially in the times we live in. As always, we take this day to remember the legend we have lost, and once again, I hope to see you again Juice. #LLJW 🖤

Edit after 3 years (Dec. 8, 2022): #LLJW 🕊️ your legacy will go on.
