You've got me rocking like an echo, echo
Fresher than a daisy eaves
It drives me crazy when you play me this
Footprints in the morning snow
You've got me rocking like an echo, echo
Fresher than a daisy eaves
Teddy bear
Baby, can we take it slowly?
'Cause I'm a junky for love
But we can still have a party
Take care
'Cause baby, I'm a delicate flower
But I could still open up
Just like a beautiful orchid
Footprints in the morning snow
You've got me rocking like an echo, echo
Fresher than a daisy eaves
It drives me crazy when you play me this
Teddy bear
Can we take it softly, softly?
Just let me fix up for love
And we could still get it started
Steady there
Let me maybe talk you through it
Just 'cause this feeling's for real
Don't make me know how to do it
Footprints in the morning snow
You've got me rocking like an echo, echo
Fresher than a daisy eaves
It drives me crazy when you play me this
Take a chance on a night romance for you
For a change, gonna do what I have to do
You will walk, you will walk, you'll walk it, ohh
Footprints in the morning snow
You've got me rocking like an echo, echo
Fresher than a daisy eaves
It drives me crazy when you play me this
Footprints in the morning snow
You've got me rocking like an echo, echo
Fresher than a daisy eaves
It drives me crazy when you play me this
Footprints in the morning snow
You've got me rocking like an echo, echo
Fresher than a daisy eaves
It drives me crazy when you play me this
Footprints in the morning snow
You've got me rocking like an echo, echo
In the song "Footprints," Róisín Murphy sings about her lover's effect on her, comparing their relationship to footprints in the morning snow. She starts by expressing how her lover makes her feel alive, singing "You've got me rocking like an echo, echo" and "Fresher than a daisy eaves." These lines convey a sense of energy and freshness, as if her lover brings renewed vigor to her life, much like the sensation of stepping outside into the crisp air of a winter morning. However, even though she feels invigorated by her lover's presence, she admits that she is still vulnerable, singing "Baby, I'm a delicate flower" and "Just 'cause this feeling's for real/Don't make me know how to do it."
The song then continues with Róisín asking her lover to take things slowly, using the metaphor of a "teddy bear" to denote affection and comfort. She expresses her desire to "fix up for love," implying that she wants to make herself the best version of herself for her lover. She continues with this idea of taking care of herself, saying "I'm a junky for love/But we can still have a party" and "Just let me fix up for love/And we could still get it started."
Overall, the song explores the themes of vulnerability, rejuvenation, and care in a romantic relationship. It is a testament to the power of love to make one feel both alive and vulnerable at the same time.
