I got into jazz 10+ years ago and back then I overlooked this album and kind of forgot it. Now in 2021 I stumbled upon it again with a more oriented ear and wow, this is an absolute masterpiece.

I had the privilege to to see him perform 2x in the early 1970's in small jazz clubs in NYC. They were some of the better shows I've seen in this genre of music.

I've listened to and enjoyed much of Sun Ra's music over the years. I honestly feel this is the most approachable LP he created. If you want to turn someone on to Sun Ra, this LP is an excellent first choice. If a high school or college class is being taught on improvisation, this would be a good choice to demonstrate the concept.

Saw Sun Ra and Arkestra @ ASU. In Tempe az. Back in'78. Toward the end, the band played while walking out into the audience, quite cool!.. The following summer I was in NYC staying a couple blocks from Symphony Space, and that night Sun Ra was to appear with Cecil Taylor. I was bummed because I couldn't afford a ticket, which was 10 bucks and I,.'d only just got to New York City & didn't have a job yet. so's I'm walking by Symphony Space and lo and behold, theres Sun Ra standing out front. Naturally, I recognize him , and say hey,Sun! " And he said " Hey man, I recognize you from the show in Tempe!" And I'm like holy sh-t! There was over 200 people in the crowd that night, how on earth can he recognize and remember lil' ol me?.. Later on, a quite knowledgeable friend I was relating this story to says "you didn't know?.. Sun Ra has a photographic memory!..

I have quite a few Sun Ra albums on vinyl and when I dip in I’m never quite sure if I have the disk on the right speed. I’ve listened through to some of his albums all the way on the wrong speed without knowing lol. He really knew how to pull your mind into unknown places.

Thanks for uploading that album. I had never listened to it before. Really liked it. Sounds very contemporary. I first listened to Sun Ra back in the mid-70s when I had his LP on the ESP label called Magic City. Hooked ever since.

i'm not certain but streaming services usually go at 128kbps but you can download them at higher rates. 128kbps is the same as 360p, where 720p is like 192kbps. the extensive utilization of the stereo field in the mix might need higher resolution to clarify the subtler nuances but i think you'd hafta test it to be sure :^
