Safe
R.R. Perkins Lyrics

Jump to: Overall Meaning ↴  Line by Line Meaning ↴

You've got a big mouth
With big words spilling out
Come here, give me a kiss
With vocabulary lips

We all take out loans
We are breaking bones
Raise your drink high
Keep your head hung low

You've got a big mouth
With big words spilling out
Come here, give me a kiss
With vocabulary lips

We all take out loans
We are breaking bones
Raise your drink high
Keep your head hung low

Signal's break up like long distance lovers
And scardy-cat kids hide under covers
Systems break up like long distance friends
Who wants to be real?
It's more fun to pretend.

We all take out loans
We are breaking bones

Raise your drink high
Keep your head hung low

Overall Meaning

The lyrics to R.R. Perkins's song "Safe" explore themes of communication, vulnerability, and authenticity. The first verse focuses on the idea of words, with the singer pointing out that the person they are speaking to has a "big mouth" filled with "big words spilling out." Despite this, however, they still ask for a kiss, suggesting that physical connection is more important than intellectual prowess. In fact, they refer to the other person's lips as "vocabulary lips," perhaps indicating that they are more interested in the sound of words than the actual content.

The second verse introduces the idea of taking out loans and breaking bones. This could be interpreted metaphorically as taking on debt and pushing oneself to the limits, or it could be taken more literally as a reference to physical pain and injury. Either way, the line "raise your drink high, keep your head hung low" suggests that the singer is encouraging the other person to acknowledge their struggles, even as they try to numb themselves with alcohol.

The final lines deal with the breakdown of communication and relationships, as signals and systems alike fall apart. The reference to "scardy-cat kids" hiding under covers could be a nod to the fear and anxiety that can arise in the face of uncertainty and chaos. However, the chorus is repeated once more, reminding us that despite everything we go through, we all take out loans and break bones - perhaps suggesting that some level of pain and hardship is inevitable in life.

Overall, "Safe" is a complex and layered song that invites multiple interpretations. It explores themes of language, disconnection, and suffering, but also offers a glimmer of hope in its acknowledgment of our shared struggles.

We've had pants with integrated pockets for knee-pads probably since the 90's over here in Europe :)

Jeffrey Sampson

They have been available off and on here probably since the 90's also just never been very popular I don't like them will stick with the old timers stuff.
I agree with the other guys I like bibs also but was a born and bred farm boy.

Michael Schofield man, overalls are the shit, theyā€™remore attractive than your butt hanging out thatā€™s for sure

Ya so have we in the US but they have never been to popular I had a set in the early 2000s and didn't like them much except for in crawl spaces. They aren't fashionable but you really can't beat a set of good bibs in my opinion.

Iā€™m an engineer with the Army and our combat pants we wear in Afghanistan have built in knee pads for framing which is amazing for when we frame. Iā€™ll have to check out the thrive for back home!

Brother, Iā€™m all about a good pair of work pants and willing to pay the premium price. That being said, these pants seem to be on the right track but still missing some key features imo. Good job on the built in knee protection but I wish they put more thought into the pockets. I think built in pouch pockets would be a great improvement. I would also like to see the existing pockets to have more material to accommodate larger hands or even ease of access without having to remove your gloves. Check out Caterpillars trademark trousers. Been wearing these for 2 years now and havenā€™t disappointed and theyā€™re only $59.

I could use heavy duty pocket liners. Otherwise, I just buy on the cheap side and replace. I went through a period where I tried more expensive pants and found that a decent pair of good fitting jeans are as good as anything .
