Zombie
R. Demon Lyrics

Jump to: Overall Meaning ↴  Line by Line Meaning ↴

Early morning, I open my eyes
Get out of bed do my exercise
Go to the washroom, shave and shower
Brush my teeth it's almost the hour
Take my jacket, put on my shoes
Get out the door; feel the morning blues
The morning blues
Living like a zombie
Walking like a zombie
Days go by and nights are through
Deep inside, feeling black, black and blue
Feeling black, black and blue

Up to the newsstand it's on my way
Line up for a coffee smells like a bouquet
Waiting for the subway every day is the same
Squeezing into people is part of the game
Walking to my desk, looking at that pile
Feeling empty trying to smile; trying to smile

Living like a zombie
Walking like a zombie
Days go by and nights are through
Deep inside, feeling black, black and blue
Feeling black, black and blue

Finally a long day is done
Going to the pub a cold one to call on
We all shuffle brainless down to the bar
Killing some brain cells it's all so bizarre
My paycheck's low no thanks to income tax
Tomorrow's early morning gives no time to relax
No time to relax

Living like a zombie
Walking like a zombie
Days go by and nights are through

Deep inside, feeling black, black and blue
Feeling black, black and blue

Overall Meaning

The song "Zombie" by R. Demon describes the daily monotony of life, and paints it as a zombie-like existence. The lyrics depict the mundanity of tasks such as exercising, getting ready for work, and commuting, all of which become routine and repetitive. The singer feels like they are living in a constant state of exhaustion, or feeling "black and blue", highlighting the toll that this lifestyle takes on mental and physical health. The lyrics also touch on the financial struggles of living paycheck to paycheck and dealing with taxes. In the end, even the release of going out for a drink after work feels scripted and robotic.

This song offers a poignant commentary on the modern working world and the struggle to maintain a sense of individuality in the face of a regimented routine. The metaphor of the zombie highlights how people can become like automatons, lacking any sort of agency, purpose or awareness of their own existence. The lyrics demonstrate how this way of living can be draining and depressing and make you feel like you are just going through the motions of life.

F*** I miss this zombie. First metal album I ever owned and what a way to get into metal! This group was unstoppable. These guys together made damn good music. Love John 5 he's an amazing guitarist and a very humble down to earth guy, but these guys really brought the heavy in zombie (IMO). Also IMO these first 2 zombie albums (Hellbilly, sinisters urge) will go down amongst the greatest albums ever made.

Stoned Meadow Of Doom

Amongst all of Rob Zombie's post White Zombie work, this is the song that stands above the rest for me

Darth Malgus

Hellbilly deluxe in general is his best solo album imo. Tho i do enjoy all of his music, new and old

the tone is really damn good. If it was a little slower, i might like it even more.

Rob Zombie has been one of my favorites for almost 20 years and has many amazing songs but this has to be my favorite. The pure angst is just adrenaline pumping.

Seriously, this has to be the best live video I've ever seen in my entire life.
