Biography 2. R. Mutt - 80s experimental Brazilian post-punk band:
R. Mutt was an experimental post-punk / electronic group formed in 1986 in Belo Horizonte, Brazil by Bruno Verner on vocals, guitar, keyboards and sampling (also a band member on Tetine, Divergência Socialista, Ida & os Voltas), Karla Xavier, on vocals, keyboards and percussion (also on AKT), Bernardo Rennó on drums, keyboards, electronics and percussion (also on Ida & Os Voltas), Marcos Basho on bass-guitar and Frederico Pessoa, bass-player on the first line-up.
The band was part of a flourishing art-punk scene from Belo Horizonte of bands such as the aforementioned Divergência Socialista, Ida & Os Voltas as well as Sexo Explícito, O Último Número, Hosana Nas Alturas, Xiitas, Alma Ciborg, Os Contras, Sylvia Klein, Crime-Ópera amongst others.
Making use of drum machines, synths and cheap samplers, R. Mutt's dystopian echoing soundscapes combined glacial electronic instrumentation with female and male half-spoken/ half-sung vocals; folk introspection, dark basslines & metal percussion, with poetic dada-surrealistic lyricism.
The group disbanded in 1989 with Bruno Verner later forming Tetine with Eliete Mejorado in the early 1990s in São Paulo, and vocalist & keyboard player Karla Xavier forming the all-female post punk outfit AKT with Sandra Coutinho (of As Mercenárias), Biba Meira (of Defalla) & Dequinha (Bruhahá Babélico), and later on, The Gilbertos with her partner Thomas Pappon (also on Fellini).

Think About It
R. Mutt Lyrics
Jump to: Overall Meaning ↴ Line by Line Meaning ↴
You told me to stay put and reminded me why I was there.
Cold blooded and misguided, you thought that this would be your best,
Then you try to hide it. A chance to move ahead
Today was the day you tried to shut me down.
Today was the day you tried to shut me down.
Did you ever mention my name?
Did you get sick of the shame?
Did you lie on your back?
Be honest,
Did you ever mention my name?
Did you get sick of the shame?
Did you lie on your back like a whore?
Close-minded with no direction.
A chance to prove who you were
The friends who forgot to think of all of the things that you're not.
Today was the day you tried to shut me down.
Today was the day you tried to shut me down.
Today was the day you tried to shut me down.
Today was the day you tried to shut me down.
Be honest,
Did you ever mention my name?
Did you get sick of the shame?
Did you lie on your back?
Be honest,
Did you ever mention my name?
Did you get sick of the shame?
Did you lie on your back?
Be honest,
Did you ever mention my name?
Did you get sick of the shame?
Did you lie on your back like a whore?
