The members first met at Saitama University in 1997, where they participated in a collegiate a cappella circle named "chocoletz" and RAG FAIR emerged from this in 1999. They developed streetlives in those days around Oomiya Station and Musashiurawa Station. From there, they were able to expand their performance lineup to live houses, weddings and parties, cultural festivals and fireworks festivals.
They had their major debut in December 2001 with the mini-album "I RAG YOU". They made their first appearance on Kouhaku Uta Gassen 2002, a prestigious annual year-end music show in Japan.
Since the band's debut, they have made numerous appearances on Japanese television, stage/musicals, radio, commercials and magazines. The band has also hosted and starred in two season music-variety shows, where both programs ran a full season each in 2003-2004. On December 10, 2005 RAG FAIR held their first Nippon Budoukan concert, where they performed the entire 3-hour show a cappella. They subsequently released a document concert DVD "Streetlive! in Budoukan".
At present, RAG FAIR has released 19 singles, 5 full-length studio albums, 2 mini-albums and 1 best album.

The lyrics to RAG FAIR’s song “Regret”, exploring the theme of lost love and longing for the past, convey a strong sense of nostalgia and melancholy. The opening lines, “How much longer until you become a distant memory?”, set the tone for the entire song, which is filled with a sense of distance and separation. The song’s lyrics are framed around the memory of a past relationship, with the singer reminiscing on how close they once were and how far they’ve drifted away.
The second verse of the song focuses on the pain of the aftermath of the breakup. The singer talks about how they’ve become used to not talking to their ex but still feel the sharp sting of the past because of their final words to each other: “I hate you.” The lyrics suggest that the pain of the relationship has stayed with the singer and they struggle to move on, even though they know the words weren’t true. The chorus repeats this, suggesting that no matter how much time has passed, they still carry a deep longing, wondering how their ex is doing now.
The final verse of the song speaks to the idea of memories and the power they have over us. The singer talks about how they don’t want to go back to the past but still have emotions for their ex that they need to convey. The final lines of the song reveal that the lie they told each other was just a facade, hiding the deeper emotions that they couldn’t express. Overall, the song is a heart-wrenching reflection on the pain of lost love and the power of our memories to keep us tethered to the past.
