And the man come on the radio
He's tellin' me more and more
About some useless information
Tryin' mess my imagination
When I'm watchin' my TV
And a man comes on to tell me
But, he can't be a man 'cause he doesn't smoke
The same cigarettes as me
When I'm ridin' around the globe
And I'm doin' this and I'm signin' that
And I'm tryin' to make some boy
Baby, baby, baby, come back
'Cause you see I'm on a losing streak
When I'm ridin' a round the globe
And I'm doin' this and I'm signin' that
And I'm tryin'
And I'm tryin'
The lyrics to RDM's song Satisfaction criticize the overwhelming influence of the media on modern society. The singer is bombarded with useless information and advertisements that distract them from their own imagination and creativity. The first verse speaks to how the man on the radio imposes his opinions and beliefs on the listener, leaving no room for individual thought. The second verse critiques the advertising industry, suggesting that their messages are not tailored to the individual, as the singer smokes different cigarettes than the man presenting the ad.
The chorus reinforces the idea that the singer is trapped in a cycle of trying to please others and failing to achieve true satisfaction. Despite their globetrotting and attempts at success, they are stuck on a losing streak. The repetition of "I'm tryin'" highlights the character's desperation, as they struggle to find meaning in their pursuits.
Overall, Satisfaction is a commentary on the overwhelming power of media and advertising in modern society, and the struggle to find authenticity and happiness in a world of manufactured messages and false promises.
