The duo started their career of music in high school. RKM (formerly known as "Rakim" but changed to avoid confusion with established Hip-Hop artist Rakim) was inspired by the recent explosion of reggaeton music in the 90's. He encouraged Ken-Y to join him to form a duo. They later would perform at sweet 16 birthday parties and public events.
Since their debut album, RKM & Ken-Y have gone on to appear and guest star on many songs. They have worked with artists such as Cruzito (Singer), Don Omar, Daddy Yankee, José Feliciano, Pitbull, Hector "El Father", David Bisbal, Ivy Queen, Chino & Nacho, Hector "El Torito", Plan B, Tony Dize, Zion & Lennox.

The lyrics to RKM & Ken-Y's song "Sacarte De Mi Mente" are about the struggle to move on from a past love. The singer is constantly reminded of their former partner and despite trying to erase all memories of them, they can't seem to shake them from their mind. The chorus poses the question to Nicky Jam of how to forget, how to move on and erase the past. The singer is in a state of internal warfare, torn between their heart and their conscience. They can't forget the love they had for this person but also can't ignore the pain they caused. The singer pleads for their former love to return, unable to resist the desire to be with them once again. However, they are also conflicted in their desire to be with this person as they know that they will be mistreated by them. Overall, the lyrics convey the message that the pain of losing a past love is difficult to overcome and moving on is a painful struggle.
